Very tough game of football which was marred by some bad refereing from Pat Fox of Westmeath. The centre forward from Palatine (Reid) was a thug and should have been red carded by half time. Eventually red carded near the final whistle when he head butted the Rhode corner back. Their number 8 then hit the referee from behind at the final whistle and then took off his jersey and ran to the dressing room.
This game will stand to Rhode but improvement is needed. Will Niall play for UCD tonight. He had a good game scoring 1-04 as had Paschal. Rhode backs need to be tighter and midfield need to play for the full match.

It's time to clamp down harder on this sort of behaviour.
We can't easily moan about Australian indiscipline while this sort of incident happens all too often and all too often gets brushed under the carpet in our own games
Well done to Rhode, but the signs are that they stuttering a little.
If they had played a more established outfit, they would have been in bigger trouble yesterday.

I was worried about Rhode with 13 mins to go and 2 points behind but fair play to them, our champions showed great battling qualities when their backs were to the wall. With a very vocal Carlow crowd and an aggressive Palatine outfit who were really up for it from the first whistle. Rhode really dug deep to get a result but I would agree with Bord Na Mona man in that they do seem to be under par at the moment, whether its tiredness or burn out I don't know but I do feel they will probably fall short in the semi final, but then again yesterday's close shave might just be a godsend.

I'd say a game like that will stand to them - notwithstanding the likely suspension that Kilmurray will get.
Looking long odds on that they'll meet UCD, and I don't think they'll mind that. Certainly UCD looked dec ent but not fantastic when I saw the semi against Kilmacud, and I'd be surprised if Rhode couldn't at least draw them into a dogfight. Roy Malone's running should cause problems too.
Games like Palatine are always tricky - the crowd gets worked up, deep down you know you should beat them....Rhode won't be favourites against UCD, but I'd give them every chance all the same.
