Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
In fairness, with a forward line of O'Neill - Flynn - Higgins + Tierney - Bryant - Hyland last year, there was not really an argument to be made for Ru McNamee starting.
We need Flynn directing things at 11, Higgins was an essential extra big man around the middle third. The others were all playing well.
He's needed on our panel atm, that much is fair to say for sure. Would be revisionist to say that he'd be a starter with everyone fit, however.
Your point about Flynn hitting the drilled passes is a good one, he really is excellent at the quick ball at a low height.

Higgins to centre field for Jack McEvoy and Ruairi in was the obvious one.Faithfully wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2026 11:26 pm In fairness, with a forward line of O'Neill - Flynn - Higgins + Tierney - Bryant - Hyland last year, there was not really an argument to be made for Ru McNamee starting.

No, because like it or not, with the new rules you can't afford to have a half forward line with none of the lads having a physical presence for kick puts.Doon Exile wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2026 11:40 pmHiggins to centre field for Jack McEvoy and Ruairi in was the obvious one.Faithfully wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2026 11:26 pm In fairness, with a forward line of O'Neill - Flynn - Higgins + Tierney - Bryant - Hyland last year, there was not really an argument to be made for Ru McNamee starting.

With the new rules and ling kick outs higgins as extra bigger lad was necessary ..mcevoy say what u want about his footballing ability his work rate was amazing last year and his ability under kick outs whilst no Anthony tohil was absolutely needed....and I go back to its ok to have a good sub to bring in lads , to help see out a game or to be a finisher especially someone with ruaris experience
Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
Or else just bring him in and start him ahead of the 3 inside forwards who have struggled to score in league so far.
And maybe add Cian Farrell and couple of others like him to that also.

Shane Tierney is back to full training and will be available for selectioon against Cavan.
We probably need to just throw him, or any of our other injury returners, straight in to get soe match time for championship.

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
A big question has a team not got a point in division 2 before.?
I know London and Kilkenny have drawn blanks in division 4 .
We were talking about this in the pub on Monday night.
Obviously some of old league setup when you played before and after the new year teams didn't win in a calendar year .
Hopefully we don't write history

Kildare did it in 2024 and Louth did it in 2018 - let me know if you want me to go back any further.
Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
People need to relax and not worry about who is or isnt playing for Offaly.
Support the lads that are there, and lets hope we get lads back from injury.
Against Cork there was 9 missing from the team that played Kildare last year in the Division 3 final. No team can absorb that kind of loss/turnover in players. Take 9 off the Kerry team and see what you are left with. And thats not including Cillian Burke who didnt feature in that game and has since gone to Oz. So thats 10 in total from a potential Offaly senior team this season. What more can ye say.....
And thats not including any of the names been mentioned on here..............Plenty of teams picked on paper, never won fuck all.

Exactly let's support the team that's their ...
Division 2 was always mission impossible with the injuries ..onwards and upwards hopefully towards a positive tailteann cup

I'll do ya one better and mention Westmeath who, just last year, did not win a single game in Division 2.faithfulfanatic wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 2:53 pmThat’s a great question Hans, must have kept ye engaged for hours.Superhans75 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 1:27 pm A big question has a team not got a point in division 2 before.?

Mind you, they drew once and were desperately unlucky not to win a few of their games.
Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
Interesting question asked to me today.
Did any offaly manager ever survive after year 1 with the loss percentage of dk in first year..?
Any offaly manager ever go 3 year with the win rate dk has at the moment and survived another year?.

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
Just out of interest, what is the actual win rate between league and champ over last 3 years to date? What are the numbers involved?
I wouldnt count O'B Cup as often these are just games for trying lads out.
Year one wasn't hectic from what I recall, but they won at least 5 if not 6 games in league last year and had bit of run in Tailteann Cup beating New York and Wicklow?

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
None of these are interesting questions, they’re bullshit to be honest.
A much more interesting question is how many are going to Tullamore on Saturday 11th April at 6:15.
Both team and management are giving their all for Offaly football so let’s just go and support them.
