Mind you they have history
Remember they didn't make themselves available when Brian Whelan was managing the county.
Offaly hurling is definitely is a strange creature
Where are you pulling that from?

Did anyone hear if Ciaran Burke is captain of the Offaly senior hurling team this year the kilcormac boys are opting out to playing for Offaly??

Seems some lads are not happy with his ongoing antics in the club championship…..
very childish if true
Yes maybe a childish move IF true that's big IF. But over the last week I've been chatting a few people about it whether it be in the pub over a hot one or just in the local shop one thing has stood out in 90% of the conversations. What he does is what I'd call extremely overboard and the disrespect he shows to his fellow county men while playing them in the club championship.

I'm a great believer in be hard, tough and bend the rules to your liking to win your 1V1 battle,(I've done it in my own playing career) but with that be fair. Win at all cost attitude but with that comes limits. It seems he's gone beyond that on a number of occasions.

Don't get me wrong in a world where there is too many snowflakes its great to see someone still at the niggly stuff. With that you have to be able to leave the field with your head held high and from what I've heard I'm not sure Burke would be able to do this on reflection.

For the sake of the county I hope this is all just Chinese whispers. As we need the Kilcormac crew just as much if not more that burke.

I cannot believe what I’m reading.
If, and I know it’s only an If. But if that is true that Kilcormac fellas would act like that because they’re not happy with how Burkie acts like that on the field.

You mentioned the word there - Snowflakes.

Good Jaysus. Burkie would be well entitled to do whatever it takes to win for his club. I know he’s a club mate and I know he can be hot and heavy with lads. But so what?? That’s what you want from your teammates. I wouldn’t want him to be any different to a non- Offaly Hurler or an Offaly hurler if he was marking them at club level.

If that’s a real genuine reason why KK lads won’t go in, it’s petty, it’s sad and to be honest it doesn’t show too much about them as fighters and competitors.

I doubt there’s any truth to the story.
But your comment ‘but so what, that’s what you want from your teammates’ is ludicrous.
You think Eoghan Cahill wants to be spat or Oisin Kelly wants to be told not to do his cruciate because that means Burke will do the same for Offaly?

Good hurler, shouldn’t be offaly captain.

Have to agree with you. Also heard he made some pretty disgusting comments to Charlie mitchell about his sister in last years county final. We've had some great offaly Captains down the years but never heard of any of them at that shite.

Also heard what was said about Charlie Mitchell’s sister. Absolute bottom of the barrel stuff.

Better off cutting that rubbish out and concentrating on his defending. God knows he hasn’t exactly been an absolute rock for Offaly at full back.

Totally agree with this the captain of the county should be a leader and an example for everyone to follow. You can be a tough defender without insulting peoples families theres a line and he’s crossed it for no reason numerous times how would them comments help in any way? You only have to look in the other corner at Ben Conneely none of that shite out of him but still hurls hard and fair has held his own against top forwards on his day. Theres our captain. Not this hard man persona Burke plays when in reality he is soft behind it all never seen him actually put in a fair hit, he throws out sly and late ones all the time

I do think yer being very harsh here though. Ricey McMenamin was one of the greatest defenders of those brilliant Tyrone teams and also captained them too! He was notoriously known for sledging lads and saying personal things etc. That’s sport, that’s a competitor.

As they say, if you can’t handle the heat in the kitchen, then get out!
You do what you have to do to win. Not all players or people in life are going to lead the same way or the “correct” way.

mcmenamin like most of that tyrone team were pricks. is it alright to try gauge goochs eyes out and get cheered at the banquet that night for it? thats the mentality up there.you would never hear eugene coughlan or martin hanamy talking shit to lads and not many got the better of them 2 legends. leave the trash talk to the lads on the high stools.

Sledging is all fine and well but Jaysus, there's levels to it that can't be allowed.

I know a man who played for another county in a Leinster senior football final who married a Church of Ireland woman. Got absolutely dogs abuse about his wife's religion in the senior championship off a neighbouring club including lads who shared the county dressing room with him. Never played for the county again as he couldn't play on the same team as the men who said that stuff.

I don't know if that would be great for team spirit lads fighting in training. Probably have some crowds at County training though. County board could sell tickets and make a few quid

I think ye might be showing yer age lads ....theres absolutely killings and I mean killings in club hurling all around the country famously the most successful counties....philly mcmahon has tore shreds physically and mentally off every top forward in Dublin and went on to win how many all Irelands with them...a group of 30 lads on a county panel of be shocked if at least two or 3 haven't done very very stupid things on a gaa field if they have been competing at an intense and ferocious level like they should be ....would I hate Roy keane if I was haaland , yes ....would I want him on my county team ....yes....offalys been too soft in both codes for too long unfortunatley .....if you really want to wear that jersey you have to be a bigger man than choose not to because u don't like another lad on panel. ..it's not school anymore lads

I suppose because offaly have not been near the top for over 20 years lads have forgotten or fail to realise what it take to be at the top and winning. I remember reading Tony griffens book and he saying how Anthony Daly was his hero. Anyway, in a club game Griffin goes in to mark daly and is abused for the next 60 minutes . "Too ugly to be a forward and F off back to where you came from. Lar Corbett being abused from a height while winning all irelands for Tipp. That Dublin 6 in a row team crossed the line, you'd be shocked at what they said and did. Kerry are unreal at it as are most of the northern teams. You think sheflin just went out and hurled,

Not a whisper on the hurling front.

Tough league ahead but great to get these type of games, misfortune is the shite weather.
Definitely need to have as strong a bench and there will be a lot of rotation needed as using the same core wont work with the quick turnaround, similar to the footballers.

All the best to players, management and fans for 26.
