Offaly Hurling 2026

Post by Cheddar »

Provisional Fixture List is out.

3 home, 3 away. Any kind of win would be massive but hopefully it brings us on for Leinster.

I think Shane Dooley would be a great addition to the Offaly senior hurling management as a forwards coach for 2026. He was absolutely outstanding for Offaly through the tough years we had. Dooley could create a chance out of nothing and I think this is what some of our forwards are going to need in the year coming.

Think Seamus Callanan might tick that box one of the best forwards of all time

Is the word on the street true??
Did anyone hear if Ciaran Burke is captain of the Offaly senior hurling team this year the kilcormac boys are opting out to playing for Offaly??

Seems some lads are not happy with his ongoing antics in the club championship…..

Interesting point...i have heard this for years about him.
Is he someone you want to lead you on the field not sure if the antics are true which you would imagine they are as their is a mix of sources from different clubs.

Heard it all if that is true, which I seriously hope is just some absolute nonsense. What Burke does would be lauded in Tipp, Kilkenny, Galway, any of the counties we are trying to close the gap to. In fact, if he was playing in those counties, he would be told to annoy, hassle, step on toes, etc, and if he didn’t he would be on the bench. Think most people in the county know what he is like on the field, I imagine the KK lads would want him to do it to whoever he’s marking, as long as he is in an Offaly jersey.

Was going to say the same thing. You do whatever it takes to win. Tipp lads won an all ireland and two weeks later they are cutting each other in two in club championship. Lads would want to be fair soft to think what Burke does warrants a reaction like not togging for the county over being captain. I'd be almost certain this is a bull shit storey.

Imagine for a moment you're an intercounty hurler with Offaly. It's been your ambition to play senior for the county since you were hurling U-10 or maybe even earlier, you've spent your youth on club pitches and in the Faithful Fields with developments squads, and as a kid you were aware of Offaly going through an all-time slump, dropping down to the Christy Ring to play teams like Sligo, before gradually climbing back up the ranks.

To fulfil your ambition, you've built your life around hurling. Your diet, your lifestyle, your study, your work, all of it is built around being physically strong and athletic, and giving yourself enough time to work on your skills, your mindset, your tactical knowledge and everything else needed to be the best you can be.

It's a boom time. Not for 20 years have things been as good as they are now. You're facing into a Spring of hurling against the best teams in the country, playing in front of a massive crowd in Páirc Uí Chaoimh as well as three home games that will have a great atmosphere, and six games in all where you get to test yourself against the best players and nobody will blame you if you aren't that competitive, since it's so long since Offaly have been at that level.

That will be followed by a Leinster championship with three home games and a great chance to take a massive scalp against either Dublin or Wexford in the Summer, a result which would be as big a win as Offaly have had in the senior championship since beating Limerick in 2008.

And now that you've put yourself in the shoes of that player and you've put all that in the forefront of your mind, imagine throwing it all away because you don't like who the manager has picked to fulfil what is effectively a ceremonial role. Come on lads, I've read some wild stuff on here but this is utterly not believable.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Lone Shark totally agree with you. Was just a point i made to see was there any truth in the matter. Seems like i haven't been the only one who has heard it.

I think personally Burke is a great lad and one you'd sit down and have a pint with But, that being said some of the on field interactions with other players are a bit uncalled for. (IE Eoghan Cahill in Kilcormac this year). Just one incident that stands out in my mind.

Now if he is captain best of luck to him a great achievement for him and for his club Durrow should be very proud of. He has that Dog in him and not afraid to push the boundaries to win his 1v1 battles. You need that when going up against the top teams.

Nobody minds cutting and being tough on the ball and a few words exhanged but if he is sledging to level he apparently he does im not sure how much respect id have for him.

It’s common knowledge that his sledging is far beyond what is acceptable.

Hard to respect a lad who has said some of the things he has allegedly said.

He’s one of those lads that you love when he’s on your team and hate when he’s against you. I don’t particularly like him or have any feeling towards him in a Durrow or Ballinamere jersey as their not my clubs, but in an Offaly jersey it’s a completely different story. As long as he does it in an Offaly jersey and keeps his man quiet, think we should be happy enough.

Cut your nose off to spite your face time again.
Mind you they have history
Remember they didn't make themselves available when Brian Whelan was managing the county.
Offaly hurling is definitely is a strange creature
