Re: Club football 2025
A statement from the club confirms that this is the end of the line, no appeal to Leinster, Ferbane will play Edenderry in the semi-final.
Also:Official Statement from Shamrocks Executive Committee and Players Group
The Shamrocks Executive Committee and Players Group convened this evening to consider the outcome of our appeal concerning the result of the Tullamore Court Hotel Senior Football Championship quarter-final.
Following careful discussion, we have unanimously agreed not to pursue the matter further. While we are disappointed with the decision of the County Board, we are satisfied that our case was given a fair hearing. It has been confirmed that no rules were contravened in the awarding of the additional point to Ferbane.
We extend our best wishes to Ferbane and to the other remaining teams as they continue their campaigns in this year’s championship.
We also wish to place on record our respect for the match officials. We recognise the challenging nature of their role and greatly value the dedication, integrity, and commitment they contribute to the game.
As a club, our attention now turns to the future, and we look forward with renewed focus to returning to the field of play in 2026.
Signed,
Shamrocks Executive Committee and Shamrocks Players Group
Statement from Shamrocks Executive Committee
We would like to place on record our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Shamrocks players for their commitment and dedication throughout the year. While last Sunday’s result did not go as we had hoped, we remain immensely proud of our panel — both for their performance on the day and for the professionalism and attitude they displayed during the appeal process throughout the week.
We are confident that, with this group of players, the club is in a strong position moving forward.

Re: Club football 2025
I have to admire Shamrocks to issue a generous statement like that, on what can only be described as a hugely disappointing week for the club, and their footballers. In a world where humanity is disregarded for whatever tawdry gain there is it shows that there are people who show respect and decency when it matters.Lone Shark wrote: ↑Fri Oct 03, 2025 9:28 pm A statement from the club confirms that this is the end of the line, no appeal to Leinster, Ferbane will play Edenderry in the semi-final.

Well done Shamrocks on statement. Good that this has come to amicable conclusion.

Kevin , great to see this was sorted so amicably. Just on the rule for clarity... the rule states "The score is allowed as long as the standing foot of the kicker is placed on or before the 40m arc." which is Adams right foot which is clearly inside the arc.Lone Shark wrote: ↑Fri Oct 03, 2025 3:49 pm
Sorry, should have explained. That snapshot probably explains better than anything, Adam Egan's left foot comes from on or just outside the arc before he swings at the ball - but does that count, or is it where is his foot when he makes contact with the ball, I genuinely don't know.
Referess have an extremly tough job at the moment.

Re: Club football 2025
Ah excellent, thank you. To be fair, I never got the sense from any party in the discussion that there was any ill-feeling in any direction, barring maybe from the Shamrocks management, otherwise it was just a messy set of events that came together.ruletheroost wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 10:15 am

But for my own information, great to have that clarity. If the rule specifies standing foot then yes, there's no debate at all, it should have been a one-point score - but as you say, refereeing is not easy and some element of human error is inevitable.

Re: Club football 2025
Maybe not the right time of year for this discussion but lusmaghs super win in the senior b, coming maybe from 4th favourites to win the champ. They’ll competitive next year in Senior A too.
There was lot of poor games in the senior a football this year. Is ten senior A football teams too much next year? Would six be enough in senior a and have a higher quality senior b champ?

Shout out to Shamrocks on their statement regarding a tough issue. May the goodwill and karma provide some positives for them going forward.

Re: Club football 2025
Semi-final weekend is upon us and it is as low-key a buildup as I can remember. We have ended up with the 4 teams in the semis that everyone predicted. Bar the Shamrocks' 1/4 final performance, no other team came close to an upset, and the lack of relegation led to blowouts in most group games.
However, both semi-finals are set for crackers. Edenderry and Ferbane is so tight to call. Both teams desperately need a county title to reflect their efforts over recent years. Winning the league was big for Edenderry, as was their win over Rhode. Can the dual players bounce back quickly for Ferbane and drive on? This is 50/50.
In the other semi we have a Tullamore team that have not been tested at all this year. Seems strange to say about back-to-back county champions, but there are unknowns about them that will only be answered on Sunday afternoon - new coaching team, new rules, star player may be distracted by AFL opportunities. They are still very good mind you but are they ready for what Rhode will bring?
Rhode have come through a much tougher group, added a star midfielder, brought back in a winning coach, and bounced back really well from the opening round defeat. Last year, I would have said Tullamore by 3-5 points. This year, it would not surprised if Rhode take it.

Re: Club football 2025
Edenderry deserve a county title to reflect their efforts of recent years? Sorry what? They haven’t reached a county final in 10 years given their size they are the undoubted under achievers and you can’t say they deserve one when they can’t even reach the final stage
Re: Club football 2025
Ferbane should have bet Edenderry in the group stages missed a glut of goal chances . Ferbane are still a fine team and have been unlucky to come up against a good Tullamore team and the last 2 finals could have gone either way.
I expect a tight game with Ferbane to Edge it I don’t think Edenderry are as good as they think they are.
Tullamore vs Rhode could be tight and Tullamore may be under cooked
How much Rhode have recovered and regained that pomp is questionable too and as for adding a star midfielder I couldn’t agree with that.
Rhodes chances hinge on Ru Mac been fit
He wasn’t used vs Bracknagh and if he isnt right Rhode will be in bother Tullamore are close to having a full squad now with options on the bench
I am predicting another Ferbane vs Tullamore final but ya just never know

Where was it stated that they deserve a county title? If it were someone else's comment, then they could address that. If it were my comment, then you misread. I said they desperately need a county title.Behindthegoal wrote: ↑Thu Oct 09, 2025 3:45 pm Edenderry deserve a county title to reflect their efforts of recent years? Sorry what? Re: Club football 2025
I know this is a 2025 football tread but very interesting proposals released for the football next year seems like county board have looked at something similar to the Westmeath structure which seems to work quite well over there.
Re: Club football 2025
I’ve full respect for any volunteers involved in the county board but that proposed championship structure could be one of the stupidest I’ve seen.
As I said above in a previous post 6 teams is enough for the senior A championship. The gap is too wide between the top and bottom half teams.

Well done to the CCC for looking at the current competition structure, identifying an issue and proposing some sort of solution/improvement.
I can't say if it's the ultimate solution, nobody can, but it's definitely worth a try to find out. If it doesn't work, then so be it. Westmeath seem pretty happy with how it works for them.
