I see Clara/BG have conceded tonight’s match. A shame to see this in a 1/4 final of a championship.

I know nothing about details and only see the results/fixtures from the website as well as the comments in here. It definitely is confusing and not a common format. Smacks of ‘“let’s run it off and tick the box to say we completed a u20 championship”,

It’s a very very strange format the same in the football losers in the first rd get rewarded by either going direct to a quarter final or playing another losing team
Re the fixture tonight it’s hardly surprising with big Important football games for these clubs in Brosna Gaels at the weekend some only 48 hrs away I know Clara seniors aren’t playing but they have a junior team where a lot of these lads play
Kk don’t take football seriously haven’t even trained this year so they don’t care about the football this weekend
Tullamore in the same boat tonight 5/6 of these lads are playing intermediate on Fri night and another 4/5 played minor football on Monday night hardly ideal timing for it
But there is no ideal timing for this championship

Probably the best way to do it. Some lads hurled Saturday and again Monday just gone. And probably trained last night or tonight. The format is very poor. Kk into a semi final now having played only 1 game.

Might be time to get rid of it altogether. It’s obviously just a box ticking exercise at this stage and players are at risk of being overloaded. Not just the games, but club managers would want to have extra trainings which compounds the issue. Between our small player pool and high number of duals, maybe there is such a thing as too many games.

Just an idea. I might be wrong but I think when St Brendan’s won the U21 a few years back it was played in December!

I’ve seen CRCC play. They have a very good team. Some strong hurlers in their ranks such as Liam Hoare, Callum Larkin , Ajay Cleary , Shane Connolly and Andrew Hogan. Young Evan McEvoy from Crinkill was very good against Kinnitty/Lusmagh. They won’t fear Kk if they meet and are definitely capable of putting it up to them and possibly beating them. Who knows ??

Ferbane- Belmont beat Na Fianna U21s in a December final a few years ago.
KK beat Carrig- Riverstown in 2022 final, in December.

U20 championship is quite entertaining and some serious amount of goals being scored and some questionable defending?

Means you end with a final in early November in the mud in Banagher
U20 championship is important
Especially for county development
Probably too many intermediate games

It could be ran off very quickly September to October if people wanted it to. Play it as knockout and most adult teams will have been knocked out at that stage across all grades.
