Offaly U20 hurling championship 2025

Post by Dodge83 »

Round 1 fixtures Tues 15th July

Ballinamere vs DSK
Clara/Brosna Gaels vs Crc/Coolderry
Belmont vs Na Fianna
Shamrocks vs Tullamore
Kinnitty/Lusmagh vs St Rynaghs
Birr vs SBK

Some interesting games there. I’m assuming Kk have a bye into round 2?? Are they the team to beat again ??

I’d imagine KK will walk this championship if they have everybody available. They won everything coming up the ranks
They bet Tullamore in the corresponding Minor final 3 yrs ago
St Rynaghs will be strong enough SBK too if they have everybody available
Between some lads playing U 18 and others In the senior/adult championships can’t imagine there be too much focus on this championship unfortunately

Kilcormac/Killoughey going for 6 in a row in this grade.

Presumably never been done before. K/K did do a 5 in a row in the 1990’s. 1994-1998 inclusive I think.

Birr got a hammering and a half very poor was at the game
SBK are not exactly world beaters

That is an unbelievable score for Birr to concede.

SBK won the U17 championship in 2023 so that would be a fairly decent team.

They beat. Birr, so SBK must be useful. Where does it leave Birr?

There’s some sort of losers round so Birr face Kinnitty/Lusmagh in that.

Kinnitty/Lusmagh brought St Rynaghs to extra time so Birr won’t have it simple there I’d say.

That is the weakest Birr team in a long time and it was no surprise if you followed their results through underage.
Will be alot stronger in a few years with what's coming through.

To be honest birr have been on a decline for a while
SBK Have some really good players but
Birr may as well got the bollards outside the ground and put them on the field. .for Offaly to advance south Offaly teams have to improve.
As much as KK are a great team they have there limitations.
If the two biggest towns go into decline
It's not going to help the county teams either.

Round 2 results

DSK 1-19
Kk 5-29

Belmont 6-15
Shamrocks 2-12

Na Fianna 1-21
Tullamore 3-16

Kinnitty/Lusmagh 1-24
Birr 0-9

St Rynaghs 2-16
SBK 4-13

1/4 final fixtures

Monday 11th August
Belmont vs Ballinamere
CRCC vs Kinnitty/Lusmagh

Wednesday 13th August
Kk vs Clara/Brosna Gaels
SBK vs Tullamore

I’m not sure how Clara/Brosna Gaels are in the 1/4 final. They got hammered by CRCC in the first round and didn’t play in the second round. Anyone have any idea what way the format works. CRCC also didn’t play in round 2. Ballinamere also well beaten in R1 and didn’t play in R2.

Correct. How did 2 teams that were hammered in R1 get a straight bye past R2 into the Qf ?
Also Shamrocks nd Belmont big wins in R1 have to play each other in R2 ...
And unfortunately for DSK good win in R1 drawn vs KK in Round 2.
This is impossible to explain ?

The only thing I can think of is that it’s a misclassification to call these games quarter finals?

Rynaghs won in round one, lost round two and aren’t listed for a QF

The way it worked last year was all the R1 losers got a second chance but any team who lost in R2 was gone.

Whatever the case you should never be rewarded for losing.
If you lose 1st game you must be paired off against a winner of the 1st round or at least made play another fixture to earn the right to get back into the championship.

Putting losers vs losers if flawed.
Tullamore, Ballinamere, Birr, Kinnitty/Lusmagh & Na Fianna all lost 1st round and were either paired off vs each other for Round 2 or pushed into Q-Finals.
Don't spread horse-manure over good crop
