Carrig and clara with good wins.
In junior A , brosna gaels with a huge win over a struggling crinkle.
Crinkill are in big trouble of relegation to junior B this year if results in the league & that hammering by Brosna Gaels is anything to go by. From what I hear they are without some good hurlers this year for one reason or another. Maybe relegation won’t be a bad thing. A club that is struggling for numbers with very little coming through from minor in the next few years.

I know they have number issues and the big bad wolf is right beside them but I couldn't see it as a positive if a club from South Offaly's first team got relegated to the 5th tier of championship hurling.

I know what you mean but if it means I get go back a grade and regroup and start to enjoy hurling again and be competitive maybe it could be for the best in the long run. They have a very tough group and I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t pick up a win. Kk & Clodiagh Gaels will be tough games. I’m not sure what Carrig’s junior team is like but I’m sure they won’t be any push overs.

If things are that bad, is it sustainable for Crinkle to continue to exist as a stand alone club? Maybe join up with Birr?

It’s not bad enough to fold the club. Next year could be better. And they definitely won’t join with Birr. That wouldn’t be an amalgamation, they would lose their identity. It would simply mean all Crinkill players would have to hurl with Birr. Hard to know what will happen over the next few years

Given the underage link up with Carrig & Riverstown, that would be a far more logical amalgamation, albeit it would possibly require a redraft some Offaly bye-laws given all that was involved in getting the whole Crinkill/Birr thing sorted out.

But as was said, there's a lot of open ground between having a bad year at junior and folding up the tent entirely. This isn't a Ballyskenach/Killavilla situation where there is a tiny population to pick from either.

The obvious thing to do is go in with carrig, they have a close connection.

I see Coolderry are playing u20 this evening with Crinkill, Carrig & Riverstown, as they have done at some underage groups recently.

Can someone confirm if Knockshegowna are also involved, and if so, how is that allowed?

The fact you say they wont join Birr and say they will lose their identity is all negative talk from a certain group of people who always pushed against Birr.

Birr would be willing to sit down with them and scraping a clubs identity certainly wouldn't be on the agenda , Birr may well need Crinkle as much as Crinkle need Birr a chat between the clubs makes more sense than ya think.

They are in the parish of Birr no reason not to join Birr.

How do you suggest they maintain their identity? With carrig its always been CRC Gaels and the crinkle colours are incorporated. So are birr going to add crinkle colours/name to the birr identity.
I doubt that would be wanted or should happen. Just asking how will the crinkle name be kept going?.

I’m not getting into this Birr / Crinkill debate again. It’s been discussed several times on this forum. Everyone has their opinion on it. I’ve no ill feelings towards Birr. From what I hear both clubs have a good relationship lately and hopefully that continues.

Could be called Birr/Crinkle, or senior team could be called Birr intermediate team called Crinkle as i said a conversation needed to be had not just write it off over bad blood from donkeys years ago where all delegates have left one club who were involved.

Dont want to get into it but saying things would never join Birr isnt fair considering they are the parish of Birr.

I'm not mad keen on going down this rabbit hole, but I'm curious and I ask this genuinely, with an open mind to the answer. In order for it to be an amalgamation, as opposed to a takeover (which I can only assume would would never wash in Crinkill), it would have to be a new club, a new name, new colours. The Birr club that won four All-Irelands would cease to be.

(1) As a Birr club member, reply as a poll with a sample size of one - would you be happy with that?
(2) Obviously you can't know this, but in your estimation, what are the prospects of that proposal getting a 75% vote at an AGM/EGM, because in my completely unqualified opinion, I find that hard to imagine. It's notoriously difficult to get in clubs that are hanging on for dear life, never mind in clubs that don't need it. Add in some lingering ill-will in a small minority of members on both sides, and it strikes me as a huge ask.

Once again, this is all hypothetical, and I'd say it's not a conversation that will be had in any real terms for 20 years - but it is a discussion forum for all things Offaly, and here we are..... :D
