Division 1 Club Hurling League 2025

Post by frankthetank »

The Divison 1 League got underway tonight with Seir Kieran defeating Kinnitty 1-10 to 0-12.

Teams play all the teams that they aren’t meeting in championship and then the four teams with the best records qualify for the league semi-finals. (I think)

Belmont are the defending champions.

Good scoring from two teams shorn of a host of starters due to inter county commitments.

I would be surprised if both teams don’t make this year’s county final.

Tullamore 3-13 to 12 points. Tullamore with a big win. Belmont looked rusty.

Result from tonight:

Kinnitty 0-13 Birr 1-13

Birr are 2 wins from 2 following their opening win over Shinrone.

Kinnitty have conceded 1-10 and 1-13 in this year’s league and lost both games. That must be tough to take.

In the senior championship last year, Kinnitty scored 1-12, 1-15, 0-09 and 0-12.
They conceded 0-12, 1-15, 2-23 and 0-16.
I don’t think the league results will be too tough to take, as their games are set up to be tight and low scoring.
They won’t mind one bit if it translates to points on the board come championship.

Rynaghs seem to be down a good few bodies due to retirement this year.
Their golden generation is winding down.

With the way modern hurling is that’s not really a sustainable business model in the long term.

Luke is a young player, did he play minor/U20 for Offaly?.

He did and played senior briefly under Johnny Kelly.

Apologies if any are incorrect or have returned since I heard this a few months ago, but Sean Dolan, Gary Conneely, Stephen Wynne and Conor Clancy were the names I heard that wouldn’t be hurling.
Clancy is lining out for Louth at the moment alongside Leon Fox but I don’t know is he transferring to a club up there?

Some strange shorelines. Ballinamere fairly hammered by rynaghs. 2-16 to 1-8.
Coolderry hammered by shinrone 2-20 to 13.
Belmont and seir kieran played out a good game 3 12 to 2- 12 in favour of clareen.

Ballinamere would be severely weakened with all their intercounty players missing.

Disappointing result for Coolderry considering their excellent results and score totals to date.

Belmont seem to be struggling but are down al least David Nally, Paddy Clancy, Oisin Kelly James Nally, Jack Clancy, Patrick Taafe and Cathal Flynn. One would presume they wouldn’t have the player depth to compensate for those losses.
