But I think the idea is here that he doesn't have to transfer at all. Him and these supposed Tubber mates would all still be Tubber members. Doesn't have to pick a hurling only club etc. Tubber as a club would just have to leave Brosna Gaels, as they are entitled to do, due to them not being in the same parishjimbob17 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 12:26 am If this is happening and know or heard nothing about it, the obvious solution for him would be to go to Ballinamere? It is close and they are a good senior team with potential, where he'd know half of them already..... but main point would be they are a hurling only club. I think that would mean he could still play senior football with his own club Tubber and hurl with Ballinamere as permission player. Joining a dual club, Clara or KK for examples, would mean he'd have to play both football and hurling with Clara / kk. Given Tubber would not want to lose him, they might be agreeable to facilitating that switch? Not sure of rules on this. Maybe someone could clarify...

Unusual if someone picked a club based on where they're going to college.faithfulfanatic wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 9:00 am I had heard a while back Shirley was off to the current Leinster champions Na Fianna, who are only a stones throw from DCU where he is in college.
Any truth to that?
I'm sure Na Fianna have their scouts sussing him out. They'd have enough clout to sort him out with some makey up job, if he wanted to stick around afterwards.
Let's not speculate too much. I'm sure the lad doesn't need us prompting him to pick the best option. Clara.

No such thing as club loyalty anymore, I’d say it’s fair to transfer if your living a long distance away from your home club, but to transfer 10 minutes out the road seems like pure madness. It’s nearly gone like transfer markets in the premier league at this rate….

Re: Offaly U20 Hurlers 2025
If this happens, I can understand why you might feel disappointed as a Brosna Gaels club member, but there are no more transfers now than there ever were. There were always stalwarts who stayed with unfashionable junior or intermediate clubs for their whole career, and there were always those who moved with a view to giving themselves the best shot possible of playing with their county, and playing at a high standard. For every Ger Oakley, there was a John Ryan. For every John Kenny, there was a Vinny Claffey or a David Connolly.HardAsTar wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 12:03 pm No such thing as club loyalty anymore, I’d say it’s fair to transfer if your living a long distance away from your home club, but to transfer 10 minutes out the road seems like pure madness. It's not like Belmont to Banagher or Daingean to Tullamore, is a long journey either.

Re: Offaly U20 Hurlers 2025
Lost in all this discussion is the fact that no one would be transferring clubs here.
Hypothetically it would be a decision by Tubber GAA to allow fellas to play their hurling with Clara or whoever instead of Brosna Gaels. Genuine question, would Tubber not be closer to Clara than they are to the 3 Brosna Gaels clubs anyways?
Different to previous examples (McDonald, Spain) where they would have had to outright leave their home clubs to hurl with someone else.
Besides I haven't heard of any official move by Tubber to do so? Seems like reckless speculation at this point?

Re: Offaly U20 Hurlers 2025
The first semi-final and the last quarter-final of the Leinster Senior B hurling competition were decided today.
Enniscorthy CBS beat Mountrath CS 1-21 to 1-12 in the quarter-final. Significance of this is the Wexford school will be Birr’s semi-final opposition next Thursday (30th January). Incidentally, Birr have reached at least the semi-final of this competition every year since 2020.
Meanwhile, Castlecomer CS reached the final for the first time since 2019 with a 5-15 to 1-16 win over Mullingar CBS. Mullingar had been showing the better early season form, dominated the Westmeath Combined School team, and I wonder if the dual player thing caught up with them.

No further details at the moment (I suppose our dear local paper will have it), but good to see Birr get a win over Naas, who are on a crest of a hurling wave in Kildare right now.
The win puts Birr into a semi-final. Elsewhere, Castlecomer play Wexford CBS in another quarter-final tomorrow, while as far as I can make out Mountrath, Mullingar CBS And Enniscorthy CBS are still in the competition.
Mercy school kilbeggan (not sure if there is an offaly contingent) also in a north leinster D final against st peters dunboyne .

Definitely without James Mahon, Dan Ravenhill, Donal Shirley and Adam Screeney.
Then if the guys who are subs for seniors tomorrow (Liam Hoare, Brecon Kavanagh, Ter Guinan and Ruairi Kelly) couldn’t play we would have put out a pretty weakened team.

From what I could gather Tipperary had 4 of their starting 15 playing. Mainly CBS players who were playing Harty and the minor team that won the all ireland last year were playing.

If Tipp had 11 or 12 starters playing they would still tell you they only had 3 or 4.
