I think SBK and Rynaghs could also make things somewhat competitive

A few good Ballyskenagh lads on the SBK team along with a wealth of lads playing intermediate. Shinrone have 8 all Ireland winners along with Ballyskenaghs 1.

St Rynaghs possess Shane Rigney and Darragh Scully who played Senior for Rynaghs. They also have a good amount of intermediate players.

I think K/K had 11 players either on the Offaly U20 panel or extended panel.

Also, Tullamore should be ashamed to lose a championship hurling march to Carrig&Riverstown and Crinkle by 30 points. That result is an absolute nonsense.
Explain why that result is nonsense?? That is a bit of a stupid statement. If you are not at the races you will suffer. Crc putting out a statement with a big win. Nothing wrong with that

From the crunchie board's site, Killoughey v Ballinamere, Rynaghs v CRC and SBK v Birr are confirmed quarter-final pairings.
Belmont, Coolderry, Clara/Brosna Gaels and Birr are still in the championship, as far as I can make out. Na Fianna, DSK, Shamrocks, Tullamore and Kinnitty/Lusmagh are gone having lost in round 2. Am I leaving anyone out?

Pat Donegan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

It’s a nonsense result on behalf of Tullamore that they would allow themselves to be beaten by 30 points in the U20 hurling championship. By a combo of 2 relatively small clubs.

It probably highlights the wider issue and elephant in the room.
Tullamore, a club with 15-20% of the county's population is placing little to no emphasis on hurling.

They are doing a fantastic job at promoting football - I noticed that they had two teams entered in some underage grades this year which is brilliant, but for a county our size we need Tullamore producing hurlers and footballers for our county teams consistently.

There is something I am struggling to get my head around and perhaps somebody here may be able to help me. St Rynaghs played and beat Ballinamere on Friday night but I see on the fixtures that Ballinamere are in a quarter final facing Kilcormac-Killoughey. St Rynaghs facing CRC. I’m no genius but something doesn’t add up here.

Little or no emphasis on Hurling ?? That’s completely false . They have been in A finals and semi finals at all grades in underage in the last few yrs they haven’t got over the line but there is loads of work going into hurling . Although the standard isn’t the same as the standard in the club at football and that’s something that needs to be addressed but one result like that yesterday dosent paint the picture of what is going on in hurling in Tullamore
There was a few working that couldn’t get off and there was a few others missing .
CRC are strong at this particular age . After this year Tullamore will be a lot more competitive at u 20 level . Faithful future I don’t think u really know what you’re talking about.
I’d more concerned looking at DSk failing to field a team at u 20 level yesterday than picking out a freak result like that
If you look at the list for minor hurling of players called in for trials . Tullamore has the most in 9 players called in so there has to be something going on in Hurling in Tullamore

Was in birr for the U20 game yesterday
Like the weather it was forgettable
I know some clubs are short of players
And some haven't been training but
This year competition looks very poor
Haven't seen all the teams but SBK kk
And CRC look best of the brunch.

They might be “relatively small clubs” but they are producing better hurlers than Tullamore at the moment. Not being smart but maybe they just aren’t at that level and need to put in more work.

From what I can recall, that Tullamore group were only beaten by KK 2 or 3 years ago in minor final and gave them a very good game until maybe 10 mins to go. But hurling plays second fiddle very much in Tullamore to the football and maybe a chunk of them have leaned more towards football in the last few years with their senior and u20 success. That said, Offaly needs Tullamore to have a strong senior hurling team.

Tullamore very strong at underage last couple of years think ye are been hard on them they would beat crcc at u13 & 15s handy and drew at minor level.

One result doesn't define a club.

Was in Banagher today for the U20 game. St Rynaghs by far the better team and comfortable winners. Best team won. But by god Blondie McLoughlin is a shocking bad ref. He should have disallowed 2 Rynaghs goals for over carrying the ball. He blew for some soft frees but let some heavy hitting go unpunished. Some of his decisions were baffling. Thankfully it had no bearing on the result. And before anyone has a go at me , I know it’s not easy to go be a ref but my god he is probably the worst one in the County.

I hope the county board see sense and call off the u 20 game between Clara and Tullamore tonight . Fog is really bad in Tullamore and no way should people be expected to travel to Tubber in it. You can’t see to halfway at the pitch in Tullamore at the moment

The Lomans game called off 15 minutes ago. Very unfair to have lads drive from college to Tubber to call it off at the last minute. Hardly go ahead will it?
