can you get blood out of a turnip? the same players will be available.by and large that lost heavily to london in the taliteann cup. if bill carroll and a few more (and i dont blame any of them)wont play for dk i somehow doubt they will play for dk and mh? the aspiration to win a leinster in 3/4 yrs is great etc. but how realistic is it? i cant see it and i hope im wrong obviously.

A) Who are or were the players that were or are at risk of not returning?

B) Who are the players that were not involved in 2024 for whatever reason, that will hopefully be involved in 2025?

Would these players returning make much of an improvement in player personnel?

Do you know what lads,

Get out and have a look at the championship over the next few weeks and identify a few from that.
There will be names bandied here and another thread has started on Senior Championhsip scorers.

Reality is what you are looking for is athletic players who will work, offer leadership on the field and perform a structured role in defence. All of these have to be able to kick scores when they find themselves in the scoring zone.

I have a good knowledge of players in the county from being involved coaching and going to rafts of matches and there are players that have decent skills but havnt the strength, stamina, football intelligence to fit into a county set up.

Plus its August, enjoy club, and enjoy the initial raft of names announced as the training panel, and debate all you like then, but as has been said already , the pool of available, committed talent is quite small, and all will depend on their buy in and the dynamic working amongst the new management.

A lot has been said about Declan and players and parents and shite , quite frankly, the man has litterally coached hundreds of players at this stage between various teams and whilst last seasons wind up was disappointing to say the least, having reflected over the last few days, I am delighted to see this effort to salvage the opportunity for DK and Offaly football. He deserves it as he took on the job and there are very few other qualified to do any better within the county.

But from now on it is about the set up being finalised and players focussing on putting their best efforts into the knock out stages of the club and we'll see what the O'Byrne Cup looks like.
FYI, Mickey has presided over 12 Mckenna cup wins so maybe we should pile onto the OBC!!

PS Nice one LS about The Westies!!

Please god Harte gets Offaly kicking the ball again and goes to as many junior and intermediate matches as he can to find some new players who were ignored in the past.

I am sick of this over and back style of football that Offaly play and am convined it's players from the big senior clubs that are bringing these tactics into the county setup.

Luke Bree announced as Offaly's new football head coach. Former Sligo player who coached Leitrim for the past two seasons, Roscommon in 2022 and St.Vincent's in Dublin before that.

Don't you know we now have to pay two managers? Cutbacks in other areas are inevitable...

Nah man, in for a penny in for a pound, seemingly we’re going to be looking at some sort of hire agreement for Croke Park for preseason games.

The cost of this management set up must be colossal?
Don’t know much about the coach but wishing him all the best.

I mean I hate to break it to you but Sligo did finish above us in the league so we can't speak.

Chill out.

Lowry is still motoring in the FedEx Cup so we're financially sound for the foreseeable.

If I have it I'll spend it.

Vinnie Cleary would want to start shifting some serious yoghurt to keep this ship afloat.

There were lads like you going around asking "since when do Offaly look to Longford for football advice?" in the late 1970s.

Pat Donegan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

"Offaly's hurling is exact and abrasive: full of assurance on the ball, devoid of fumbling and slicing and sod-busting". Kevin Cashman RIP (September 1994).
