There is no doubt but if an outside manager got last years results, they'd be gone. If an Offaly local manager on 2nd year got them, they'd be gone. It was as bad as it ever has been in championship. My sense of it is that if DK hadn't that U20 store of credit in the bank, he'd be gone. I really hope it works out for him and at time of appointment, everyone appeared to be happy with appointment. I'm not sure it will all work out, going by last year and in my opinion, a lot will depend on the mood music from the experienced lads from last years panel, and their willingness to go back in or not. We can't discount that experience in my opinion, and If we lose too many of these, then i'd fear we go out with too much inexperience and get shown up in early stages of league, whereupon manager will come under pressure.
As for some of names mentioned, Cillian Bourke has all the ability to become senior inter county and was probably one of the pick of the U20s this year as an 18 year old. Plunkett is good enough but is there a personality clash, and will either back down and would the player do the work to get to senior inter county level fitness is probably the question. The older Kenny lad is a big unit and can play. He probably has a good base of natural athleticism but Senior inter county is big jump from Ballycommon. Needs to be in a dev squad and work him from there..... Sean Conway is a good player and played inter county U20 without standing out. Probably needs to get injury free and do well with club first and maybe go into a dev squad from there. Aaron Leavy for me is a standout club player and needs to be brought in and is better than plenty of lads that got time in MF last year.

In fairness Leavy would've been in if he hadn't been suspended.jimbob17 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 6:32 pm There is no doubt but if an outside manager got last years results, they'd be gone. Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024
I can't see the point of people having grudges wether certain clubs have more or should have less players on the county squad.
We all want Offaly to succeed.
Management is a different case I honestly
Couldn't see a case for keeping Kelly on
Nothing has changed it's a bit like backing a horse that won 4 years ago and expecting the same result today .
The game moves on and counties that initiate new ideas and evolve will thrive
But for those who stagnate and want to Pat themselves on the back and an old boys
Network will stagnate at best.
Or division 4 .
.
Hopefully common sense will eventually prevail but I'm not going to hold my breath.
Take care people
