Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2024

Post by faithfulfanatic »

Sorry lads, haven’t got a chance to do a preview.
I’ll hopefully get to it next week.

Championship kicks off tonight with Ballinamere and Birr in Tullamore.
Great to have all the Senior A games on Clubber.

My 4 semi finalists are KK, Belmont, Coolderry and Ballinamere.

I expect Rynaghs to struggle to qualify in the top 3.

Not ideal preparation for Seir Kieran with their manager walking away Tuesday night. I think Tullamore and Kinnitty are a nice bit ahead of them as things stand.

Birr will be kicking themselves after that plenty of chances to win that game with a few points to spare but still could have lost it at the death . Balinamere are nowhere near winning a senior hurling championship looking at that performance.

I've a good feeling about Belmont. If they avoid kk till the final I think these two will contest the county final.

Birr should of won. Two goals in one minute first half killed them.

Safe to say both teams have work to do. I know most teams have been hit with people travelling but Birr have been wiped out totally in the last 3 years they have lost

Hard replace them when not much coming through at the minute.

All 6 started senior matches 4 of them consistently.

Agreed upsetting for birr as they had the beating of ballinamere. Birr definitely shouldve won

To be honest I thought ballinamere left it behind, moving Duignan full forward and hitting the high ball up caused birr problems. He had a half chance a few minutes before his goal. The goal just before halftime brought birr back into it and changed the game completely I thought.

There was only ever a point in it and I don’t think birr lead in the second half until 5-10 mins before the end, yep birr had a great chance but he couldn’t get it up on the stick but ballinamere missed 3-4 shots at the end to win. Would have been hard on either team to lose so thought a draw was a fair result.

Thought Eoghan Cahill had a fine match, missed a few but got some wonderful points. Anyway no one is going to win a county final or even semi final in the first round.

Yeah I dont agree that Birr should have won, they could have but so could Ballinamere. I think both teams were poor and dont think either deserved to win. Eoghan Cahill and Kevin McDermott probably the two standouts for each team although both had some poor wides too. Kilcormac wont be too worried about either team but it's only round one at the end of the day.

I can't comment on the first half of the game in tullamore last night as i was late getting out of work.
Caught the last 20 mins
Both teams are a long way of KK standard
Birr should have won but also should have lost ..
Looks like Belmont will be the team to challenge KK but it's early days but the writing is on the wall
Enjoy the all Ireland .

If we see a worse execution of a puckout strategy than Tullamore’s tonight for the rest of the championship I’ll be pretty shocked.

Conservatively estimating that Kilcormac/Killoughey scored 0-08 from Tullamore short puckouts.

Jesus lads if Belmont are the closest challengers to Kk then we might as well hand it to them now, no disrespect to them but their time to win one has passed. Paddy Clancy abroad and David Nally injured they simply don’t have the depth to be without two county players. I struggle to see anyone competing with KK they will be looking at Leinster rather than Offaly over the next few years with the amount of county titles they’ll win

36 points is good scoring. Can't remember a team scoring that many in a long time. Maybe I'm wrong

You're not wrong. It is a record.
Shinrone were first to break 30 points when scoring 1-30 against Ballyskenagh in 2009.
That record stood for just three months before Kilcormac-Killoughey hit 4-32 against the same opposition.
Then in 2015, Birr fired 5-34 against Brosna Gaels.
Scoring 30 points in a match in Offaly has really happened just six or seven times. Remember you're playing for 60 minutes, so 0-30 over 60 minutes would equate to 0-35 over 70 minutes. Therefore 0-36 would extrapolate to 0-42 over 70 minutes.
But seriously, how long before someone scores 0-40?

Fair play POTH. Good stats there. Wasn't at the kk match last night but from reading the match report kk missed some easy piont chances in the second half and could easily have scored over 40 pionts

It's just struck me that the corresponding fixture last year ended in a 2-30 to 0-20 win for Kilcormac-Killoughey, the first time 50 white flags were raised over 60 minutes in Offaly. Yesterday's game had 49 (1-36 to 0-13).

James Mahon, Guinan and Daniel Hand look to have improved their team. It’s theirs to lose you’d imagine.
