Mclyntyre
Lone Shark, do you think mclyntyre will be the manager of the hurlers next year? i think he should step down, as i think he has taken the team as far as he could in two years. i was very dissapointed with the displays against wexford and dublin, i wasnt at he other two games but heard they were poor. the team should a lot of promise in the league, and with some young players like hoctor, bergin, egan, cleary and kevin brady showing promise, what do you think the future holds?

I would be extremely surprised if he stays on. I have nothing but respect for him as a man and as a manager, but his approach didn't work this year. When the pressure came on in games, he and his selectors weren't able to tap into the fighting spirit of our hurlers. I thought he was the perfect man for it when he got it, and approaching the Wexford game this year I thought he did everything right - however that defeat crucified us.
He's an intelligent man though - I'd say he'll figure it out.
As for the future - not confident - I've posted a more extensive analysis elsewhere, but I suspect it'll be a long road back.

Down with this sort of thing !When will this sort of thing end?
We'll probably have to wait until the glory of the 90's team fades a bit and players stop thinking they can live on the reputations of their predecessors and dig in to create their own place in hurling.
Offaly had very good teams in the early/mid eighties, and very good teams through the 90's.
Now we don't, but we need someone to decide on who their first 15/18 are and how they want them to play, and then work on that. The reality is the current team will not beat Kilkenny, Galway or any of the Munster teams in championship hurling. Beating Wexford is now the target and try to improve from that base.

McIntyre has to go. Since he took over for a second time we have made no improvement. We are still outside the top 8 ranked number 9. What sort of training etc is carried out. We have looked slow, awkward and tactically embarrassing. He has to go. I know that we don't have the talent from 1 to 15 but we should be doing better. Look at Clare. They manage to get to the semi's with less talent but are very fit etc and would go through a brick wall for Daly. How many of the Offaly lads would do that. Not many or maybe none. The whole sysyem in Offaly hurling needs change or we will never see McCarthy again unless we are travelling through Kilkenny or Cork.

NaasMan are you honestly trying to say that Clare have less talent than Offaly? Not a chance - that Clare team are a fine team. Dont let the typical rant that they are just a crowd of big men deceive you. They have an excellent mix throughout their team and while im not here to put down offaly, they are definitely a far superior outfit (individually and colectively) than our boys.
Does anyone agree with me that there are plenty of lads on the Offaly team that take playing for offaly for granted? Most of them would have walked onto offaly underage teams, without ever having to battle (or in many cases even go for the trials) for the right to be there. This seems to have filtered up to the senior panel in recent years - plus the fact that there is no great competition to take some of the places - but thats not these players fault...thats a discussion for a whole different tread.

We have more talent than Clare, i'll stick by that. Our problem is that Clare have leaders all around the pitch, they work harder on the pitch, look way stronger and would die for their county. They always seem to be better prepared. Now look at Offaly, They look like a buch of school boys, never seem to be phyically strong for a battle, HAVE NO LEADERS, never seem to have a plan.

Difficult to change the mindset of some of the players overnight though.
What is encouraging is that a lot of the players who didn't stop trying when things turned bad against Limerick and Clare, were the young players. Maybe as the panel gets freshened up in the next couple of years, a better attitude will prevail.
