Excellent thread.
If you are going to pick Brian Coughlan on your team you might aswell pick him at wing back because to the best of my recollection he didn't play one championship minute at corner back for Kinnitty. I would have Oisin Kelly, Emmet Nolan and Colm Coughlan as three of my forwards.

Re: Hurling Team of Year 2016 & County Panel Prospects
I know Brian Coughlan at corner back in controversal but I see hime 3 times this year and deserves to be included as do my other picks.
I am struggling for a goalie and nobody I have seen this year stuck out for me. Mullins at it age is still an excellent keeper as would most likely get the nod.
Midfielders this year have been poor in general, Paddy Murphy was excellent all year and a shame he will be hurling intermediate next year. 11 & 12 for me is hard to pick. I dont like picking players in a team of year because they contribute from frees, if I did it would be Coughlan and Slevin.
Of the 4 teams the last day, Kinsella and Rory Hanniffy stood out for me in these positions. I taught Rynaghs half forward line were very poor as were KK.
I can expand on my team:
1
2 Brian Coughlan
3 Dermot Shortt
4 Con Mahon
5 Ben Connelley
6 Aidan Treacy
7 Sean Ryan
8
9 Paddy Murphy
10 Shane Kinsella
11
12
13Eimhin Kelly
14 Oisin Cahill
15 Eoghan Cahill

Michael Gilligan , O Mahon ?? And Dylan Murray if that is who you meant, ? Neither of these 3 were in any way regulars with their clubs this year!!
And as for C Molloy , he played 35 mins hurling in total for his club as he was injured in the first game .!!
Re: Hurling Team of Year 2016 & County Panel Prospects
Tarmac fair point but i rate both M Gilligan and C Molloy as two big prospects, as for O Mahon and d Murray i had a brain freeze and i could not think of another centre back or corner forward u 23 maybe D Doughan and L langton would have been better .
Tarmac i was trying to pick a strong u23 team as imsick hearing that offaly have no young lads coming and when S Dooley And J Bergin go were finished.
Tarmac what u23 team would u pick????

Re: Hurling Team of Year 2016 & County Panel Prospects
Well after seeing the semi finals and the final yesterday I think I can conclude with my team
Kevin O Connor
Ben Connelly
Demot Shortt (I am gonna go with Shortt but he hasn't been outstanding anytime I have seen him and just shows why Offaly are stuck for a full back)
Con Mahon
Brian Watkins
Aidan Treacy
Sean Ryan
Gazza Kelly
Paddy Murphy
Shane Kinsella
Emett Nolan
Ronan Hughes
Eimhin Kelly
Oisin Kelly
Eoghan Cahill

Jesus Missed so many game this year it very hard to know but from what i've seen.
1. Kevin O'Connor.
2. Paddy Rigney
3. Eanna Murphy.
4. Ben Connelly
5. Sean Coughlan
6. Aidan Treacy
7. Enda Gorgan.
8. Conor Doughlan
9. Gary.Kelly
10. Ronan Hughes
11. Shane Kinsella
12. Emmett Nolan
13. Oisin Kelly
14. Colm Coughlan
15. Eoghan Cahill
Jesus very tough in some position. Kevin O'Connor, Conor Claney and Mullins all very good this year.
corner backs were hard enough. Rigney and Connelly were easy enough. the two were outstanding, The issue with them was that they didn't play corner back in Rigney case he played full back all year.
The same with Sean Coughlan. Played Centre back but too good not to be pushed in at number 5.
The one to he that picked themselves were. Eanna Murphy best full back i seen this year. Aiden Tracey, Enda Gorgan, Gary Kelly, Shane Kinsella and Eoghan Cahill no question in my mind outstanding in there position.
County Panel Prospects. that a different question.
To Me, Ben Connelly, Eoghlan Cahill, Onsin Mahon, Ronan Hughes and Oisin Kelly are still physical too young to be playing inter county. Our aim should be to get these lads playing to there potential in there mid or late 20's. The team can carry one but not all of them.
Patience with these lads is the key to getting the best out of them.
Aiden Tracey, Enda Gorgan, Colm Mulronney, and Sean Dolan (who is the hard working forward in offaly). all would be additions. Last year Centre backs and full back were an issue again.
Shortt, Tracey, Murphy and Sean Coughlan. Conor Doughlan not a centre back he a midfield. Maybe Kenny to come back in.
But key position, that need to be sort out this years No more playing wing back, midfielder and wing forwards in.
Tracey and Murphy for me but hopefully Tracey won't be available untill after the 17 March 2017.

Re: Hurling Team of Year 2016 & County Panel Prospects
Tox I think all the lads u picked played well this year but i think P Camon performance in the final earns him a place .Midfield i cant disagree with.
The forwards S Kinsella E Nolan O Kelly and after his performance in the final R Hughes has to be there .That leaves 2 spots I think G Connelly has to be there especially for his performance in the last 10 minutes in both the semi final and final. Finally S Ryan has to be there he carried birr all year and his point in final earned him a spot at corner forward , real quality .
J Bergin and P Murphy miss out because the real test of players was from the quarter final on and their best performance came before then.

Can someone tell me how Aidan Treacy is making all of your teams? Also how is paddy Delaney of Kinnitty not featured on any?
Re: Hurling Team of Year 2016 & County Panel Prospects
Yes that birrs S Ryan i felt bad leaving him out because he carried birr this year but i could have gone with St Rynagh Capt instea,d Sean Dolan and the team would look like this.kaiserchief wrote:Is that Sean Ryan @ 15?

I think it a decent team of guys that have stood up at club level this year.

Re: Hurling Team of Year 2016 & County Panel Prospects
That is mental, he played 20 mins of the final in the forwards this year and never got a ball. Was one of the best wing backs all year.
Sean Dolan is a better choice in fairness.
Team looks solid enough there and if all available it would be a solid starting point for the incoming manager, along with lads who consisantly involved with county panels, Dooley, Bergin, King, Dempsey, C McDonald, C Egan.
Still no sign of a manager being put in place. Is there any update out there?
