Hurling Championship
I was at the Double Header in Birr.
Coolderry shot 22 wides and still beat Kinnitty. At one stage in the second half Kinnitty were ahead playing with a strong breeze but a Cathal Parlon goal from a great Brian Carroll pass over the top of the defence swung the game. James Rigney did his best on Carroll with both players having their moments and Stephen Molloy looked lively for Kinnitty. Kevin Brady scored two fine points and showed leadership when it was needed.
Ballyskenach had a narrow but well-merited victory over St. Rynaghs. Playing against the Breeze in the second half they brought back Brendan Murphy to sweep up around their 65 and he had a huge amount of touches in the second half. One of the remaining Franks brothers was switched up from corner back to score well in the forwards in the second half. Diarmuid Horan showed flashes but didn't dominate - Ciaran Flannery came on as a sub, looked very heavy, almost Gazza-like but was surprisingly mobile. Some really strong pulling, especially around the Rynaghs half-back line area.
