Div1a and div2a

Post by jimbojumbo »

Hey guys, just a quick q, could someone please tell me what these two leagues are? are they new leagues, or just new names for old leagues?

As far as I know there was a change to the structure of the leagues this year, whereby the second teams of senior clubs would only play each other, and the exclusively junior clubs would have a division, or divisions, to themselves. For example, Clara or Shamrocks' second teams won't come up against Ballinagar or Ballycommon. It sounds sensible as it gives the junior clubs a better chance of winning a league title.
For example, if the senior teams of Tullamore, Clara and Shamrocks (I'm guessing here) are in Division 1, then their second teams for the league were placed in Division 1A. This is confusing because if someone sees a Division 1A fixture in the paper between Tullamore and Shamrocks, they mightn't realise it is two junior teams that are playing. Hope I've clarified that correctly!
