Results: Wk ending 26th Feb

Seeing as it is very difficult some weeks to get results from the Teletext or from the Offaly GAA website, it would be great to be able come here on a Monday to get them each week.

(we have all taken LS for granted the last year or so, and feel it is time to pay him back a little)

If treasurer can upload the fixtures, then we could fill in details on results or any short comments that anyone wants to put on games that they attend:

I'll start the ball rolling. The only game I saw over the wkend was in Under 21 football, with T'more and Shannon Gaels.

Not sure of the exact final score, but Tmore won fairly easily. they were 2-9 to 2points up by half time and the game really was over at that stage, although the Gaels did keep chipping away at the score until the end. According to sources the Gaels hadnt met this year before the match, and that looked fairly evident in their performance. Tullamore looked good and took their scores nicely when needed, but overplayed it at times too.

Would be interesting to see the other results in the grade. I imagine that Michaels would be the favourites again this year, with Tmore behind them. Or prehaps some other club will also contest this?

St Colemans (Parish of Daingean) had a facile win over Na Fianna (Killeigh/Raheen Parish), a scoreline of 3-17 to 5 points or something in that order (maybe someone else knows the score?). So a good win for the side who will hopefully go on to build on their appearance (as St Vincents) in the minor final.

[Mighty Pair O' Hands]

Tubber had a good 2 point win over the Rovers - 2 first half goals for Tubber gave them a six point lead - Rovers chipped away second half but could only get to within 2 points - Tubber were flying fit for the time of year. Erin Rovers after good wins over both Shamrocks and Clara senior teams previously, will be disappointed to lose to an intermediate side.

There's a master schedule of league fixtures laid out this year - I can post them up as they're due, but you can bet that clubs will be doing some swapping and changing, so no guarantee of how accurate it will be. Anyway, for next Sunday, this is as per the master list: (I'll post full master list later)

Wheery (Ferbane parish and Birr) had a hard fought win over a hard working Gracefield side. The fact that both teams haven't been getting together and with the conditions being terrible it meant that the game was very sloppy. Wheery won 0-11 to 0-9

I know we all assume Michaels should be under 21 favourites, but that's three minor titles in a row for Tullamore now - surely they must be at least 50/50, with Michael's losing a lot of key lads this year?

You hardly have a line up for that Wheery team there MFF? Seems odd to throw Birr in - you'd think South Offaly would just make up one team between them all down there.

Birr would actually have a few handy players to add in - I saw Verney play last year a few times in the junior and he impressed me, while obviously Ryan would be good and Lonergan might be okay if he has improved another bit.

Fair point about St Michaels/Tullamore being about 50/50. However, I feel that with James Keane and Gearoid O Grady missing for tullamore, that it leaves them a bit stretched as these are 2 county standard players. I also imagine that Ballycumber/Tubber - (not sure what they are called at under 21) should be strong, as they had some impressive minor teams also - which is great to see.

I also thought it strange that ferbane are in with birr - not the most obvious amalgamation - but should be strong i imagine

Hopefully that championship gets run smoothly this year (which i know the c board are trying to do), and we dont end up with a first round in feb and a final on christmas eve

B/T are St. Manchan's at this level. They had a poor year at this level last year, and I suspect they might struggle this year as well. Tubber had a few lads on last year's minor team, but U-21 is another kettle of fish, and of the players they had, only Kavanagh was a really big imposing lad who would be able to hold his own you'd feel.

I forgot about Keane and O'Grady being gone - two fairly big losses all right. Still you'd expect the town to have a bit of depth all the same.

I would have said that Ferbane with Birr would be strong - but that depends on if they have the cohesion. And if the Birr lads are actually trying, which you never know in this situation.

The Birr lads didn't have a team at U21 and since there were some lads that wanted to play football the looked to join up with someone. The county board wouldn't add another team to the Shannon Gaels amalgamation so they came with us.

We had one training together on the Wednesday before the Friday night game and even at that not everyone was able to get up so cohesion is a problem. Team was:

Seems a decent enough line up - granted still a bit short of what you'd think Tullamore or Michaels would have, but there would be no reason to be afraid of anyone else.

Forgot about Rogers - he'd be another handy enough footballer if memory serves.

I still think it's very poor form that in all of south Offaly they couldn't find fifteen lads who wanted to play under 21 football. Surely if the word went out in every club there would be one or two who'd want to give it a go?
