Kilcormac/Killoughey Football

Post by bracknaghboy »

As we know KK were fully deserving of the Intermediate Championship last Sunday. Here's a question for LS or POTH in relation to the win. KK do not enter a team in the football league. Has a team ever won an intermediate championship having played no league games. Also they will compete senior next year and won't be entering a team a league team next year either. Has a team ever competed at senior level having not played in the league at all. I've never heard of it. I'd say its extremely rare. Can't be too many situations like it in the whole 32 counties. Obviously with the senior hurlers effectively doubling up as the football team its not feasible to enter a team in the football league. Its an interesting and somewhat strange scenario don't you think.

By the way I've seen plenty of intermediate football over the years and can safely say that KK attack is the best attack I've seen in many a year. Gorman kicked a couple of monster points last week and looks very capable. Dan has developed into a fine footballer and his goal was real class. Ger Healion made 3 super block downs and Mahon and Slevin covered every blade of grass out there foraging for ball. The teams overall work rate is no different than when they are hurling.
Fair play KK on a serious achievement.

When Birr were in their Hayday, they didn't have a team competing in D 1 league. They would usually send out their Intermediates to bat in the league.

Also, why wouldn't KK enter a team in the league next year? Lots of other clubs draw on a very similar pool of players for both codes. KK would be classed as a big club in playing numbers, resources, facilities, etc. by Offaly standards so if clubs like Shamrocks, Ballinamere, Rynaghs, Tullamore, Brosna Gaels clubs can manage, then I'm sure KK will manage too.

I have to say I totally agree. No reason they cant put out a team in the league. The likes of Belmont, Tullamore, Rynaghs, Shamrocks, Brosna gaels and others have been balancing senior huirling and football for years.

KK would definately have a bigger pick of players than alot of duel clubs so I dont see them as any different.

It is a great achievement for the club and they are on a bit of a roll the last two years but lets not get carried away, the teams named above have consistently turned out very competitive teams in both codes for years even pulling from smaller numbers of available players.

Another thing to consider is that the standard in the county has dropped quiet a bit in the last 5 or so years.
