That was going to be one of the draw backs of the new league system. It's actually fairly difficult to name 13 or 14 guys who are guaranteed to start.

These are the guys who I think are nailed on to start:

James Dempsey, David Franks, David Kenny, James Rigney, Brendan Murphy, Diarmuid Horan, Cathal Parlon, Joe Begin, Shane Dooley. I left Rory off due to the injury. For anyone not on that list it's possible to make a fairly good argument against them starting on June 2nd. I don't think any of the above can be left off. Franks would be the only one I would have reservations about but options at corner back are thin on the ground. If anyone was in Lusmagh Sunday night for Kinnitty vs Seir Kieran they would have seen why James Rigney HAS to hurl in the half back line for Offaly.

What is a definite is that all the panel could have eyes on a starting spot!!

Anyone called in due to their performances at the weekend??
i hear Brian Carroll is going well in training and matches at midfield, also Paul Cleary, good to see Dylan Hayden hurling again but he has missed alot
of hurling and training.

was talking to county player at the offaly minor match and he said Connor Heron is pushing hard for a place along with Barry Harding who hurl well for Birr
at fullback at the weekend.

it will be hard to pick the 15 for the wexford game if all are fit, i was surprise with only 4 Coolderry lads that were called in Joe and Kevin Brady Carroll and Parlon
did Damien Murray or Trevor Corcoran not get the call.

At the Offaly v Tipp game a few weeks ago Hernon got 3 points from midfield. The only problem was that his man managed the same.

Id say you could nearly guarentee that the inside forward line will be Dooley, bergin and ryan.. Cathal parlon, brendan murphy, derek molloy, brian carroll, colin egan and thomas carroll will be fighting for places in the forward line. James rigney will surely start he was excellent at the weekend. Horan, morkan, kenny will be starting in the backs. Its hard to know what the corner backs will be, franks in back in the running and has the experience, hernon recently called back and supposed to be going well, chris mcdonald played most of the league, sean couglhan has came on there and played well at the weekend. Will hanniffy be back to play any part ???

Can anyone here tell me where and when do Offaly hurlers train? Would like to take in a training session before the Wexford match?

Most of the early season training was done in Banagher on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but they've probably switched to Tullamore at this stage. Would imagine they stick to the same evenings. I'm sure if you give the PRO, Niall Murphy, a buzz he'll be able to let you know. His number is on the Offaly GAA homepage under the photo of the hurling team promoting the Fun Run.

And here was me hoping there was potential for a morale boosting performance against a Kilkenny team who might be cruising!

1. James Dempsey
2. James Rigney
3. David Kenny
4. Stephen Wynne
5. Barry Harding
6. Paul Cleary
7. Del Morkam
8. Kevin Brady
9. Conor Hernon
10. Cathal Parlon
11. Brian Carroll
12. Brendan Murphy
13. Tom Carroll

Kilkenny had Tommy Walsh corner back, Kieran Joyce Full back, Paul Murphy centre back, Richie Doyle wing back, Paddy Hogan centre field, TJ Reid centre forward, Eoin Larkin wing forward, a brother of Tommy Walsh wing forward, Richie Hogan full forward, Aidan Fogarty corner forward.
I had no programme so was going by the experts I was at the match with!!!

Dooley was probably playing football for Tullamore...... Not great standard so when championship is only 2 weeks away.... Hopefully a MASSIVE eye-opener for the lads... Wexford wont be and push over......

Kilkenny

Eoghan Murphy
Tommy Walsh
Kieran Joyce
Richie Doyle
John Tennyson
Paul Murphy
Lester Ryan
Paddy Hogan
Conor Fogarty
Eoin Larkin
TJ Reid
Padraig Walsh
Thomas Breen
Richie Hogan
Aidan Fogarty.

Subs brought in included Matthew Ruth, Joe Lyng, Mark Bergin and a few other who made a good impression that I didn't recognise.

Offaly seemed to decide not to start anyone who played club football which made the whole exercise a bit pointless. Offaly needed to field a full strength team to compete in what is surely their most important examination before the Wexford match. In contrast the KK senior hurling championship was played on Friday and Saturday this weekend to free up the seniors for the challenge on Sunday. Subtle differences in attitude of county boards tell a lot.

For Offaly, Kevin Brady was probably the best player with Brian Carroll looking good at times. Some of the defending in the first half was suicidal with James Rigney esp disappointing in the first half conceding about 2-2 to a rookie KK forward, Breen. I pick on Rigney as I rate him as a player and thought he'd be an ideal corner back. I'm not sure if Stephen Egan's absence is self imposed or not but his speed and sweeping abilities would have been handy today. Offaly's other major problem was the old failing of an inability to win ball in the air. Even the smallest and youngest Kilkenny subs seemed to be well able to compete for high ball.

I hadn't been to Clara's new pitch before. Fair play to all involved it really is an impressive set up and the event today was very well run. Unfortunately Kilkenny, through no fault of their own, killed off the atmosphere by half way through the first half.
