Farrell is new Meath hurling boss
05 October 2010
Former Offaly dual star Cillian Farrell was last night ratified as Meath's new hurling manager.
Farrell, who succeeds TJ Reilly in the role, was in charge of the Na Fianna (Enfield/Baconstown) team which competed in the Meath SHC this year. In his mid-thirties, Farrell hails from a well-known Edenderry GAA family and has represented the east Offaly club with distinction in both football and hurling for well over a decade. He also played senior football and hurling with Offaly, and was part of the Faithful County's 1998 All-Ireland winning hurling squad.
Farrell follows in the footsteps of his former Offaly team-mate and RTE pundit Michael Duignan, who managed the Royals to a memorable Leinster championship victory over Laois nearly a decade ago. He will be targeting Christy Ring Cup success with his new charges in the coming season.

Re: Cillian Farrell is new Meath hurling manager
Best of luck to him. He was both a fine hurler and footballer but injury really hindered his playing career. He's very young too I'd say no more than 33-34? It will be interesting to see how he progresses with Meath. Someone in Meath obviously has faith in him. They have gone back a fair bit recently so they may well be operating on an only way is up basis. I certainly didn't see this appointment coming!
