Cribbin set to stay on

Offaly to keep faith in Cribben

01 September 2010

Tom Cribben is set to continue as Offaly football boss for another year at least.

Cribben met with a seven-man committee of the county board to review the season gone past and outline his aims, having stated his desire to continue with the Faithful County immediately after their All-Ireland SFC qualifier defeat to Down back in July.

The committee are now set to recommend the Clane man to delegates for reappointment in 2011 at Tuesday night's scheduled county board meeting.

Meanwhile, county hurling boss Joe Dooley has yet to sit down with the board having completed his three-year term at the helm

Down have done a lot for his CV - that narrow defeat is looking better and better.

Have to say im happy enough with what Cribben has done this year .
Infairness to him he has given the supporters what they wanted by bringing in new faces and a younger look to the team.
He has given younger lads the chance to proove themelfes and most have them have taking it they have certinaly give me something to be optimistic about.Hopfully now next year they will have abit more expeirence and confidence to do better things next year.Another thing i like is he shows he is the boss its either my way or the high way attitude no players with big egos are in charge.Saying that i still would love to see Thomas Deehan.P.j Ward,Niall Smith and others back in batteling for theire places hopfully he can get around these guys to come back.
We had a decent enough run in the championship and should hae overturned all ireland finalists Down.
To throw someone else into the job now would unsettle the current panel .
Hopfully next year the lads will strive on getting promoted which i belive they are more than capable of doing and giving the leinster championship a good go.
Against Down last year for the first time in a long time the team looked liked a team and played for and with each other .Hopfully that kind attitude continues on into next year. :)

Contradiction?

Not necessarily. Without getting into the specific nature of the three lads above, who are three footballers with very different personalities, everyone would love to see players battling for places - the point is that not everyone relishes that challenge. Now if somebody takes the easy view and looks at the existing Offaly team and then just says that "think how much better they'd have been if player X was playing" well then that's clearly garbage. If you're half way through the league campaign and lads are still "holding out", then those guys simply can't be ready for the summer. Of course there can be injuries or other factors that force you to draft guys in, then so be it, but the point is that we'd all love to see certain guys decide to make a push to play for the county, but there's only so far you can go to meet them.

The thing that gets forgotten too is that of the guys that are in there and playing, a lot of those might have had personal problems or footballing issues at various stages, but you don't hear about them because management or somebody else has managed to smooth things over. It's not as simple as thinking that the management is no good at keeping difficult players onside - maybe they are good, they just don't have a 100% record?
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Jayz True Gael, dont get carried away there. Offaly look like we are on the road back to being some way competitive. However hurlers non show against Tipp, plus the fact that we only beat Clare and Waterford are facts. But the performance against Down was encouraging, but did they take us a little for granted? After all, their bus driver hadnt even done his homework that day!!??
I would like to see what Joe Dooleys plans are for Offaly in order to improve? I would suspect its of the "ah sure we are doing great, keep at it lads!" variety.

Makes perfect sense for Cribben to stay on and after running Down so close the feel good factor has to manufacture itself into getting out of Div 3 before giving Leinster a massive go next year, nothing else will do. For the hurlers '' Mr Comfortable'' will no doubt be left alone to give the old ''I'm proud of them'' crap that he is famous for when one of the big guns turn us over in the qualifers again next year :x

Lone Shark has really summed up what im trying to say.
Cribben has made it clear hes in charge and i like that but woudnt it be good if these guys where on the panel and went about there buisness like evryone else who is there?I dont no any of the lads but they are good footballers and hopfully next year the will be back on the panel and want to play for the county.

On a diffrent note Offaly goal keeper Alan Mulhall is still top scorer in the championship followed by Ballycumbers Rory Guinan i know there is a huge diffrence between club and county football but any body think Mullhall will be giving ago out the feild or Will Guinin have a part to play during the league at least?

One player who id love to see being given a shot next year is Ian Duffy from walsh island in goals i think he deffinatly deserves a chance.

Down weren't at their best and most likely the murdering they gave Offaly in 2008 made them complacent. I genuinely thought they were going nowhere fast having seen them against us.

My regret that night was not so much the missed chances, but that Offaly stood off them a bit too much. Several of their players looked clueless in possession and their build up play looked painfully slow and static. I felt had Offaly gotten stuck into them more, they would have gifted us plenty more turnovers.

They've improved since, but that game should give still Offaly a real bit of fill up.

Cribbin reappointed in Offaly

08 September 2010

Tom Cribbin has been reappointed as Offaly senior football manager for another year following last night's county board meeting.

Cribbin met with a seven-man committee of the county board last month to review the season gone past and outline his aims, having stated his desire to continue with the Faithful County immediately after their All-Ireland SFC qualifier defeat to Down back in July.

Selectors Declan Farrell and Declan McGovern have also been ratified and it is believed that an unanimous decision was taken to reappoint the Clane man to his post.
