Minor Hurling Championship Offaly v Westmeath 15/5/2010

Post by leinsterman »

Big Game for offaly minors on saturday in mullingar nice to get a win and get revenge for last year lost.
they were unlucky in the wexford game and played well. this is a game offaly can win and get to the semil-final.

Hope a big crowd goes to cheer on offaly but i wouldn't hold my breath on that, nice to play the cats in the semil-final
in tullamore.

Offaly 0-16 Westmeath 0-14, Good win for Offaly Minors they made hard work of it with Westmeath missed two goal chance's.
have to say they didn't play half as well as they did against wexford two weeks ago took them a long time to get going.

Best for offaly today were Connor Clancy in goal very good under the droping ball and has good hands, Pat Camon and Simon og Lyons
and my man of the match David King and Mckelve in the back's. the midfield were quiet enough with Adrian Hynes getting a few points.

The forwards were poor today with only Stephen Quirke scoring 0-9 and Aodhan Kealey who worked hard and broke a lot of ball.
the selectors may make up their minds where they are goimg to play Thomas Carroll play him half forward and leave him there.

Other thing the Westmeath crowd are hard to listen to there was a few beside me and they kept going on about last years match i just said
to them its 2010 now not 2009 wouldn't like to see them if they won something bitter crowd .

anyway its the cats next up in Tullamore on the 26 of June if they hurl like today it will be over after 20 minute's But i think they can
hurl a lot better than todays display.

Despite the fact quirke did most of the scoring, i saw on the paper hynes and sean cleary got 3 points each. Albeit against wastemeath, its not all bleak! This team has ability. If we can get a good crowd in town against kilkenny and everyone gets behind this team we will be in with a shout. Speakin to a brother in law of mine down in kilkenny, said its definetly not kilkennys strongest minor team. They were hopin' for a wastemeath win! Hopefully joe cleary is keepin the set up fresh and keepin lads on their toes, draftin in lads as the championship begins. Nothin' like a bit of competition for places when new players threw into the fray. Bitta hunger :D

Judgeing by your previous comments amigo stones and glass houses come to mind.
We beat ye last yr should have this yr with a load of injuries.i think you might have to get used to seeing lots of this bitter crowd.Just thought that would sweeten your day up.Congrats and best of luck with the cats

Well to tell you the truth the day we have to worried about westmeath hurlers would be a sad day alright. as for the stones and glass houses what are you talking about.

Sad days then it appears at least for your minors at the moment a trend which will move slowly upwards
As for the stones and glass houses I thought a perceptive type like yourself might get the drift but I guess I was wrong about your level of intelligence or was I

i think leinster man, you may have too high an opinion of the standard within your county. my own county, carlow have beaten ye twice in the last few years at minor as have westmarth last yr. i think barring beating kildare (am open to correction here) is this only the 2nd win in 3 years? we re all trying to promote hurling in all our counties and raise the standard. maybe rather than being arrogant, you should worry about the westmeaths and carlows of this world and keep working hard up there. by the way this isnt aimed at offaly or its good people, just your own poor attitude. i know it doesnt reflect the opinions of the hurling people up there..

well if you read what i wrote about some of the westmeath fans were saying and running down offaly hurling on saturday . it was them that had a bad attitude with offaly
yes carlow did beat offaly and well done to them. i am not here looking down on other counties but i won't listen to supports that run down offaly hurling counties that
won nothing in hurling.

and what had ye won upto 30yrs ago? is it all about winning so? sur we may all go off and listen to the likes of tipp etc so.. i think its very stupid of you to get so bitter over a few stray comments u heard in the stand and think that it represents all that is gaa in that county. ye have a few fair tulips up there too, i know too well, but as i said in my last post, theres more good than bad up there and the same in westmeath and indeed most counties. have a bit of cop on and realise that living in the past and tradition have little weight compared to good work..

well folks, tink i hav to agree with old yellar in his comment on dat we are living on past glories in tinking dat we hav a right to look down on other 'not so strong' hurling counties, beating us at minor level. We have done absolutely noting of note at underage level these past few years. Im tired of lads coming on this site and claiming we are not getting behind our minors, our set up within the county to develop underage hurling is a pure joke, i tink dat arguement has been well documented by others here so no point in me bringing them up again. Leinsterman i tink u are a bit unfair in comments bouy the westmeath supporters, i was beside sum fans from both counties and 'our crowd' wer actually terrible to listen to.

a lot more than westmeath will ever win, your the one coming on getting your nicker's in a knot . and yes there was a few muppets shouting and roaring at the young offaly
hurlers taking the free's and also the waterman for westmeath want to be ashamed of himself for the way he was going on with on the sideline roaring at offalys corner back.

Bye the way old yellar as you said your from carlow so i take it your were at the dublin and carlow game so, so you weren't at the offaly westmeath match to know what
was going on and this is a GAA and offaly forum so i am entitle to posted about the game or what happen at it. i am not on the westmeath or carlow forum giving out about it ok.

as well my point was the crowd in from of me was unreal the way they were going on about offay, and there was a few women from shinrone beside me and the things they were calling the shinrone player micheal cleary was bad so don't tell me what i didn't or didn't hear at that match from westmeath so called fan's.

As a Westmeath hurling supporter I agree we have our share of muppets as do Offaly,Carlow and every other county.Hurling for me is the worlds greatest sport and in Westmeath we have been huge admirers of the Faithful greats in the 80s and 90s.The Dooleys,Pat Carroll,Pat Delaney ,Johhny Flattery are greatly admired here signs on many of them managed the WH senior hurling team in our efforts to improve.I would absolutely love for us to make a breakthru in hurling and at underage we are improveing as indeed and maybe even more so Carlow.I would also love to see Offaly go on and beat KK in the semi final and indeed make serious progress in Leinster HURLING NEEDS Offaly but it also needs Westmeaths and Carlows to improve. No point in knocking hurling people because of a few muppets hence the stones and glass houses
