Why are offaly the only county that never have there teams picked for the public to see
them. every other county have their team announce this week for their games at the weekend. tipp v galway kk v cork dublin have their team picked and announced. it's not till
you get the programme on the sunday do you know the offaly team, and thats wrong most
of the time as well. offaly always had their teams out during the week why has it change
now what's the big secret.

Re: Team's for sunday's games never announced
Joe Dooley has always treated his team selections as if they were a top secret government document, so that's just par for the course with him. In the case of the footballers, there's just too many lads touch and go between illness and injury at the moment.

Re: Team's for sunday's games never announced
In fairness, since regular training became the norm all those years ago, the announcement of the team and posting it up in a shop window ceased to be an issue.
Apparently the team was on the radio earlier today. I didn’t hear it, and ‘tis all a matter – I’ll find it out soon enough. It’s not like knowing the team a week in advance will make a difference to my life. Whatever it is there won’t be any surprises to the seasoned observers.

From Hoganstand:
Slightly off topic, but related to the Sligo game...
What's this???!!! A manager looking forward to a game and expecting his team to do well, some praise for the effort last time???!!! Horrifying.
Where's the usual..., 'Our team is all beat up and we have no hope against these short odds All Ireland contenders. Sligo is far away and their home support will push them on. These games really scare the life out of me, Sligo is mighty and I don't want our fragile egos to be shattered. I'm feeling sick to my stomach thinking about it'. Continue on with the usual defeatist psycho-babble...
Good man Tom Cribben!!!
As for this statement..."I'm expecting a big performance." - We may have a long way to go, but raising the bar in terms of expectations never hurt anyone. If the players feel the same way about the coming game they'll leave it all on the field.
Good luck to all involved.
Cribben welcomes Sligo test
Offaly manager Tom Cribben
12 March 2010
Offaly football manager Tom Cribben is looking forward to Sunday's trip to Sligo.
The Faithful County kept their Division Three hopes alive with a narrow win over Roscommon last weekend and the manager is relishing the challenge of pitting his charges against the Yeats County:
"We're looking forward to it. Sligo have a good inside forward line but I like the way our lads played [against Roscommon] and it's just about everyone staying switched on the whole time.
"I was very happy with the way the defence played and if we can get the defence right - and it has taken time with the U21s missing - I'm confident we're going in the right direction.
"I'm expecting a big performance."

Re: Team's for sunday's games never announced
wat difference does it make whether the team is announced or not, for ye that dont know the team would go in for the programme on the monday before the match and alot can change in them five or six days so its better to pick the team closer to the weekend??
