i always thought the gaa was good value for kids and kept them off the streets but was informed that now ,not only do the kids have to be a payed up members but have 2 pay a fee aswell to use the facilities ,at least thats the story in rhode where the u8 u10 and u12 boys and girls have begun training for 2009, surely if they are members they shouldn't have to pay extra for training ..times are hard.

Don't know where your getting your info but thats a complete fabrication. The normal club membership applies in Rhode as in any other club.

Red Exile,Rhode GAA membership is 5euro per child or 25euro per Family(both parents + all kids under 18). Adult players membership is 45euro which includes insurance. There is no charge to use facilities. The club now has 3 full size pitches with one completely floodlit. The cost of this development has been substantial but was well managed by the committee. With 3 pitches we can now have numerous grades training or playing at the same time. Therefore new dressing rooms are now required. Again at a substantial cost. This cost will NOT be recouped by charging parents or players for the use of facilities. However as transport costs are high for the underage club parents will be asked to contribute towards buses.
As for the Lady peilador's, I can't comment. The Ladies Football organisation is completely Independant from the GAA.

17 euro for u10 and u8 ..28 euro for u12 and u14 i think its a one off payment .

Question is still left unanswered here. Does an underage player in Rhode have to pay anything else bar a once of membership payment and a a contibution each time to the bus?

Man from Ferbane, The answer is no they don't. Don't know where red exile is getting his/her information. Again I am only speaking from Rhode GAA point of view. I don't know anything about Rhode Ladies prices.

Because this is the GAA, we shouldn't charge kids to come and play, we want to encourage them as much as possible. While I was DELIGHTED that Ireland won the Grand Slam, it will put extra pressure on the GAA for getting underage players. So anything we can do to encourage them to keep coming we should be doing.

To get back to the topic at hand, I'd wholeheartedly echo MFF's sentiments - kids should be encouraged and while €2 is a token amount, it still sends out all the wrong message at a time when rugby (and other sports) are competing like hoors to try and get the attention of future players. We in the GAA know that this money grabbing thing is a nonsense because we know where the money goes - a lot of people don't quite grasp that to the same extent.

By all means have a fundraiser at the end of the year where parents can contribute and most of them will, but pay to train is all wrong, if it is the case that any clubs out there are doing it.
