How many teams come out of each group? Or what way are the quarter and semi finals working this year?

Does anybody else agree that this system is ridiculous. No wonder hurling is at a standstill in this county.

For example, if Lusmagh draw Tullamore in their first match in late April/early May, underperform and lose, their season is more or less over. In a county that should be trying to develop championship hurlers, half the clubs will only play 3 championship/league games with no straight knock-out game (excluding meaningless relegation matches). The only other "competitive hurling" on offer is in a league, which as it has nothing to do with the championship, is basically a series of challenge matches.

Contrast this with a successful county like Kilkenny, who also have 12 senior teams. Hurlers are given a chance to develop. Their league section of the championship guarantees everybody 5 competitive games and also guarantees every team one championship knock-out chance at the business end of the year in autumn.

As the teams in Offaly are a little more unbalanced, I would suggest reducing the number of senior clubs to 10.
Two groups of five.
Top two in each group kept apart in quarter finals.
Third also through to quarters.
fourth and fifth play first round championship matches which double as relegation semi finals.

I strongly believe every team should have one championship knock out game each year. I believe this system would keep the league section competitive, offer every team five competitive games. with the winners only playing 7.
