Im wondering if anyone knows where i could get hold of the Offaly Independent writeup of the ferbane vs daingean 1955 senior football championship first round match.

Most of those papers would be archived on Microfilm in Tullamore Library. I remember having to go in and dig up stuff from the turn of the century, so I assume they'd have matches from 50 years later. Might be as good a starting base as any for you. I didn't even realise Ferbane were senior in 1955 - won intermediate in 1957 and went straight back down after it, so I assume it was short lived if we were.
Brendan Ryan (former schoolteacher) would be the main historian of all things Ferbane, he'd be another possible port of call. I say possible mind, to have an actual report might be a bridge too far. Worth a try though I suppose.

I'll be honest, it's years since I've been in there (nigh on ten come to think of it), so no idea. It's not the busy-ness, it's the difficulty in getting there doing working hours. It's fine if you're just looking for a particular piece but if you're trying to research a general club history, you'd need to take an awful lot of days off!
