2008 Betting

Post by Archangel »

Was looking at PaddyPowers Odds for 2008 Leinsters.

Hurling:
Kilkenny 1/18 :o
Wexford 11/1
Offaly 18/1

It's so hard to believe a team can be 18 to 1 ON, why don't they just suspend betting on Kilkenny.

Football:
Dublin 10-11, Meath 7-2, Laois 9-2, Kildare 12-1, Louth 14-1, Offaly 16-1, Westmeath 16-1,

Noticed Kildare moved from 16s to 12s on the strength of McGeeney's appointment as Manager. I know this is LoneSharks area but hard to see any value there, except maybe Meath.

Depending on the draw, Louth Each way (1-2) might be a decent bet.
Shane Gavin. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Get yer money on now, cos the odds will be pulled just before the draw and reassessed after.

Offaly, Dublin, Wexford and Leix should be notionally at slightly better odds than their status, as they are guaranteed a quarter final place.
All bar one of Kildare, Wastemeath, Louth, Meath, Longford, Carlow and money bags Wicklow will have to play an opener and so some of them face an early exit.

While Louth did well in the qualifiers for the second year in a row, they still aren't a good Leinster championship team. The only team they have beaten in recent years is Wicklow, after a massive struggle!

Those odds will change when the draw is made. Like if Dublin & Meath get drawn on the same half of the draw, then odds on the likes of Laois & Kildare will sharpen, or whoever is on the opposite side of the draw.

PS. just noticed boylesports have Meath @ 9/2 . That's where my score is going.

I couldn't really disagree with that lot too much. Realistically, much and all as it pains me to say it, Dublin @ 10/11 is probably a very fair bet. I've good time for Kildare football in general, so If McGeeney straightens them out they won't be too far away, but I couldn't have any of the others there.

Meath are legitimately the second best team, but Geraghty was still one of their main threats and he's certainly not getting any younger, while the draw could very easily hand them four tough games on the way to the final. They certainly have no prospect of the easy type of draw that someone like Laois or Dublin could get in theory anyway.
