Clara v Edenderry U10's
With all the "hype" recently regarding the flood of disciplinary cases that have been happening in the GAA, I hear that the above game had to be abandoned at the weekend- Magpie can you confirm?

Re: Clara v Edenderry U10's
My young fella was hurling training at the end of the pitch so I was only half watching what looked like a very high standard U10 match. I didn't notice anything untoward but when the final whistle blew a young Clara lad was hurt along the sideline (how badly I couldn't tell) but the match certainly didn't appear to be abandoned. As far as I know Edenderry won by a point but I left immediately on the whistle so maybe something happened later...Hyper wrote:With all the "hype" recently regarding the flood of disciplinary cases that have been happening in the GAA, I hear that the above game had to be abandoned at the weekend- Magpie can you confirm?

Sorry for the delay Hyper, but I had to look into this one. I guess technically the match was abandoned, as the Clara selectors decided to withdraw the team from the field.
It seems that Clara were holding a fairly healthy lead but a spate of contentious frees (obviously, contentious from a Clara perspective) were awarded to Edenderry within quite a short space of time. To compound things, Edenderry scored fairly heavily from these frees (something like 1-5).
On top of all of this I believe one of the Clara players (whether deliberatly or not) got quite a bad injury from an elbow. In fairness, at this level it would be hard to believe it was deliberate, but I'm not going to call it either way - I wasn't there.
Anyway, the combination of those things and maybe others that I'm unaware of, caused the Clara selectors to withdraw the team from the field.
It's an awful pity that we're seeing things like this at Under 10 - whatever the cause. At that age you can be sure that most of the children were probably terrified by the end of it all.
