Awesome Support in Portlaoise!!

Post by Bogman »

I have to say I was proud of the support Offaly got yesterday in the Hurling game. Any rally on the field was met with a crescendo of sound from the stand and there were a lot of healthy outbreaks of "Offaly" or "Uibh Fhaili" chanting.

Even well into the 2nd half, when the game was slipping away, the crowd was still solidly behind the team!!

I usually think the"Faithful" tag for our supporters is misplaced but Sunday's performance on the Stands and Terraces was as heartening as the performance on the pitch!!

Would it be too much to hope that we'll have similar support in the Qualifiers???

Spot on. I'm fairly hoarse today after yesterday's excesses.
Here is a good description from today's Indo:
Offaly will find endless reasons why they weren't a lot closer at the end, but one won't be the inspiration they drew from their own support.

For those 50 minutes, when the gap only once briefly went to five and probably only averaged three points at any stage, the Offaly crowd acted like an extra man. A great guttural roar shot through the ground after every first-half score, calling on the players for more and assuring them that they had their faith.

Well done to all the fans who did their best to give the players a lift.
The players got a great reception coming off at half time. It was mentioned on another thread by Fido who saw the tv coverage that the Offaly support was "savage" :P

The qualifiers might be bridge too far for a good few people, but it's important that everyone at an Offaly game gives the players as much encouragement as possible.

I think that we (Offaly fans) are realising that All-Irelands aren't going to fall into our laps and we're really getting behind the teams.

Yes it was brilliant to hear the magnificent support for our senior teams last Sunday, but I would love to know how many of them will spend next spring following our footballers in DIV 4 and our hurlers in DIV 2. I Think we all know the answer to that one.
