Offaly football minor trials

Post by The bear »

I was in the faithful fields Monday evening. The minor lads are in on trail period there. It's a very young and small panel. I lm told it half consists of u 16 players. Have we no faith in next year's minor that we have to go a year younger? 7 from st Vincent's there only 2 should be making it. 1 is there for obvious reasons we all know why. Tullamore dominate it i think around 10, tullamore will be strong for next 10 year bear in mind there seniors is a young team

Sounds a lot like someone with ulterior motive to post this.
Don’t think we should be discussing young lads in for minor trials, especially trying to insinuate that some specific lads shouldn’t be there.
And the nature of an u17 panel is that about half will be u16.

I agree, need to be careful about what is said around this. They are only kids. By all accounts there is a very strong U16 group next year. Normally you'd have about 10/30 from the younger cohort and 20/30 from final year minors. There shouldnt be a huge amount of trialing going on if the Development Squads are doing their work right as they are essentially the current U15 and U16 teams and anyone involved in those will know lie of land with players. Its really a case of reducing maybe 40-45 players down to whatever you are working with - 30 or so....

I am interested to know who if anybody from the 2025 U15 and U16 development squad management are involved with minors in 2026?

The trials are mainly between already existing squad members over two age grouos and maybe a few who showed well in the club championship. I be very slow to comment on individuals or who should be where or doing what. 2026 will be difficult with 2027 being better. Few duals who won't be able to do both will also have an impact..
In regards to mgt not sure too many stayed on from the development squads mgt group. Not the main guys anyway.

The net has been spread wide as the mgt team were late enough getting appointed so they need to get a look at as many players as they can. What’s striking to me is the lack of players from Rhode Clara and St Broughans that’s a big chunk of clubs with one each from Rhode and Clara and none from St Broughans This team will probably rely heavily enough on a big cohort from Tullamore and Edenderry
The best of luck to players over the next few weeks and to the MGT team for the year .

The minor football team of 2026 will be good and getting to a semi final this year will be the aim and take it feom there, anything can happen then. The management team is only in and id say trying to suss out what's what, hopefully the best panel.of players is in there. If offaly get the best 15 on the field at minor level we are generally more than competitive.
Tullamore and edenderry will have the bulk of the panel going by the club u16 championship . They are back up and running now so here hoping for another magical run like 2025

No ulterior motive, saint Vincent's got relegated in under 16 this year so just curious how half the team made trials... I agree though we need to give alot of lads trials but I would think 90% of panel is already picked. Great to see Edenderry under age coming back strong again. I believe This offaly minor team can do very very well in 2026 if right panel picked. we had 5 or 6 under 16s on the offaly panel last year all good players, it would be great to retain our leister title next year, I believe we can if all goes right. I guess time will tell

Would make more sense if at least one of the fellas who had them through dev squads was there or kept on. Doesnt make much sense not to have anybody from management group that would know the group of players inside out having gained lot of knowledge of group over the last few years. Will take a fulĺ new mgmt group at least 4 or 5 months to get to know best team.

I didn't know none of management from development was kept? How did they know who to bring forward for trials so? I would of assumed the manager or selector would been scouting all under 16 and minor games this year and had knowledge of positions etc as you see all county managers do, not managements fault they can only work with what there giving and were late in. Known offaly it was probably county board that picked it 🤣 I'm joking obviously.

I'm sure at least one of the development squad mentors stayed on. Wouldn't be that hard to get a panel together but having the right team and style of play etc is obviously more difficult. Mgt were late in and probably a one year gig the way things are been played out.

As far as I know, 2 mentors from either of the development squads making up the minor team stayed on.
