Re: U20 hurling 2026
I think we are doing a lot wrong at the minute despite what public perception might be about our underage. It’s quite clear that we have been fortunate with our recent success with the 20s, but for every really good year, there has been almost the same or more really bad years. Think of last year’s ...

Re: U20 hurling 2026
This game will put any notions of Leo O’Connor getting the senior job to bed. The hurlers aren’t there, but the naivety to play this Kilkenny team man on man when they are clearly superior is crazy. As far as I’m concerned, these young lads have been thrown to the wolves.

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
I wouldn’t bother with the whole management debate at this stage, just reassess it at the end of the county season. Old arguments going around in circles, if you looked through this forum you would see an argument breaks out, 3 weeks later then it’s repeated.

Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
I was paraphrasing for getting a good support in at least. If O’Connor Park was to be filled, it would require almost a quarter of our population. Especially tough given the historical north/south football/hurling divide. But instead of having 6,000, surely 10,000+ is possible if there’s a bit of ...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
I was listening to the Indo Hurling Podcast yesterday and one comment Michael Verney made which seemed to go unnoticed was that the seniors had to ‘earn the trust of the supporters’ or something along those lines. The crowds that followed the minors and 20s did not immediately start off with them ...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
I think one major thing as well about the injuries is that out of all the games where you could afford to not chance/miss players, it’s Galway in Pearse Stadium. Every other game, I think we could get results, even Kilkenny based on their performance or lack there of on Saturday. After the Galway ...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
Very proud of our lads tonight. In recent years, how many times have we lost a game like that? Dublin have aspirations of winning a Leinster championship.
Just a couple of lads I think deserve credit who maybe don’t get it a whole pile. I thought Ross Ravenhill was exceptional. He took the fight ...

Re: U20 Footballers
I think it would be a lot fairer to suggest names of who should be there rather than saying one man is stopping management teams from picking players based on where they are from. The seniors last year had 2 Rhode players, both were asked in this year and declined. The 17s last year had a couple ...

Re: Offaly Minor Hurling 2026
Very harsh that same team at u16 lost to tyrone.
As far as I know, that was either this year’s U18 group or this year’s U17 group without all their minor panelists last year. So all of their so-called better hurlers would have been missing. Counties like Offaly use the Celtic Challenge ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
I honestly read the body language of the players as not being physically tired, more like they are checked out. There is no way that any competent management team would have players completing heavy sessions in the week of a championship game. When Laois lost the ball, 2-12 sprinted to get back. We ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
That sounds like an awful lot of influence. Especially when you consider the divided opinions across the county on him. I think these things and all related to our underage can’t be autocratic in nature, decisions need to be made involving as many people on the ground as possible.

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
I imagine it’ll be the minor team he wants to take over just because I don’t imagine Roger Ryan will be stepping down. I know that next years U17 crop are supposedly quite strong, I’d be suspicious of a manager walking before he’s ran and still gets to be involved with an underage county team. That ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
Didn't get to go this evening but from listened to all on radio. It was very poor by all accounts
It was mentioned here in middle of league that Rory Egan is like a fish out of water as a half forward. Daire McDaid has rarely if ever played in forwards for county and ended up there in a ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
Very very disappointing. There was a massive gulf in class between Laois and ourselves, a 9 point beating which really should have been 15+. It’s clear there’s a disconnect, which is sad for all parties. There is just too many lads walking back when the ball is lost, heads down, no real game-plan ...

Re: Offaly Minor Hurling 2026
Quite clearly a disappointing term. There was always going to be a lull period, but it’s important to be competitive. We need to have teams that are competing at underage to keep our senior’s supplied with a couple of hurlers every year. This Westmeath team are very good and have standout hurlers ...
