Re: Offaly hurling manager??
As appointments goes, it's a match-up for both parties. There is scope for modest progress for both Offaly and Ryan- as has been pointed out, the likelihood of getting in a big 'stellar' name was never on. If you look at the pecking order, Offaly have extricated themselves from the round robin, and ...

Re: Offaly hurling manager??
Not sure what to think tbh. My first reaction was why get a man from outside the county that wouldn't have at least of a moderately successful pedigree. It would be better imo to go for guys involved within Offaly even if their experience at inter county level was limited. In this situation we have ...

Re: Offaly hurling manager??
Just wondering who Ye all think of as a worthy successor to Eamonn Kelly? Gonna throw out a few names and see what everyone else makes:
Outsiders:
Liam sheedy
James mc garry
Anthony Cunningham
Francy forde
Anthony Daly
Johnny Kelly
Ken hogan
From within county:
Danny Owens
Joachim Kelly ...

Re: Offaly Club Hurling C'ship 2016
Congrats to St. Rynaghs. This a huge result for them not just because they have become champions but more importantly they at last say they have laid a few demons (in terms of pressure) to rest. It wasn't pretty but that matters little when its all about the result. Hughes was the difference and his ...

Re: Offaly Club Hurling C'ship 2016
Rynaghs to win with bit to spare. Will be a lot of birr lads wont be able for our running game. Twil be the start of few yrs of dominance.
its the short passing and running game that have lost Rynaghs the last few county finals. Birr by 3 points for me.
I disagree Rynagh lost last year because ...

The only one from the west is Johnny Kelly. Did he step down from Coolderry?

Re: Offaly Club Hurling C'ship 2016
It will be an interesting county final because of one factor IMO. The ability of St.Rynaghs to handle the pressure associated with playing/winning a county final.? They have without doubt the strongest panel of players at the moment but as last year proved that doesn't guarantee success. I know ...

Re: Éamonn Kelly steps down
Anthony Cunningham would not be a good choice. I think it was proved in Galway that he got team selections and a lot of decisions badly wrong, (Callanan, Tipp 3 Goal fiasco) (Skehill playing all Ireland with dislocated shoulder) hence his removal by the players last year.

Re: Offaly Club Hurling C'ship 2016
Went down to Birr on Saturday and saw two different types of games tbh. St. Rynaghs certainly have a very talented team of players and were at times in complete control of the game but to be fair to Belmont they attacked with a lot of quality and were very close to causing an upset. The way Rynaghs ...

Re: Éamonn Kelly steps down
Disappointing that Eamon Kelly stepped down after just one year. I know he has said it was because of work and personal commitments but I hope there were not internal reasons behind him stepping down. I think he did a good job in terms of putting professional levels of performance preparation in ...

Re: Offaly Club Hurling C'ship 2016
I was at KK V Belmont, first game of the year for me to get to. Oisin kelly from Belmont looks like a great prospect. I thought he gave KK alot of trouble at the back. KK still on track put looks like Birr have improved most this year. Coolderry, I gather from reading Poth's are missing, Kevin Brady ...

Re: Offaly v Westmeath, Mullingar, Sunday 1st May
I believe it is down to the type of hurling being coached at underage level POTH, but I wouldn't advocate what Forde is coaching Rynagh's although he is a good coach. His type of game has been counter acted in the past by KK under Owens and Coolderry under Kelly. I think both K/K AND C/D have better ...

Re: Allianz Hurling League Roinn 1B 2016
It was heartening to see the effort Offaly put in especially with conditions so poor. My belief is that while there are some tactical issues to sort out regarding a game plan, however the players are putting in a brilliant effort and deserve more support. After all these men make huge sacrifices to ...

Re: Offaly Hurling Championships 2015
Hard Luck to St. Rynaghs on Sunday. While the scoreline was close I though that Coolderry were the better team all through. I think they scored 2:10 from play as opposed to Rynaghs 1:4. A number of the frees the referee gave to Rynaghs were very questionable and, if they were frees at all, then ...
